Dem Mock Am wit Crown of Thorn

Chapter 19.

Den Pilate carry Jesus go flog am. Di soldier dem weave one crown of thorn, put am for im head, and wrap purple cloth roun am. Dem come dey come meet am, dey talk say, "Make di King of di Jews dem live long!" and dem slap im face.

Pilate come comot again, tell dem, "Look, I dey bring am comot give una, so wey una go know say I no see any fault for am." So Jesus comot, dey wear di thorn crown and di purple cloth. Pilate tell dem, "See di man!"

Wen di chief priest dem and di guard dem see am, dem shout, "Nail am for cross! Nail am for cross!" Pilate tell dem, "Una carry am una self go nail am, bicos I no see any guilt for am."

Di Jews dem answer am, ‘We get law; and by dat law e suppose die, bicos e make imself di Pikin of God.’

Wen Pilate hear dis one, im fear come plenty pass. Im enter im headquarters again, ask Jesus, "Na wia you comot from?" But Jesus no answer am anytin. So Pilate tell am, "You no go tok give me? You no know say I get power to release you, and power to nail you for cross?"

Jesus answer am, "You for no get any power over me at all, if dem no give you am from up. Na dat one make di person wey hand me over give you carry di bigger sin."

From dat time, Pilate try to release am, but di Jews dem shout say, "If you release am, you no be friend of Caesar. Anybody wey make imself king dey stand against Caesar."

Wen Pilate hear dis words, im bring Jesus comot, come sit for di judgment seat for one place wey dem dey call Stone Pavement — Gabbatha for Aramaic language. Na Passover Preparation Day, around afta-noon. Im tell di Jews dem, "See una King!"

Dem shout, "Carry am comot! Carry am comot! Nail am for cross!" Pilate ask dem, "Make I nail una king for cross?" Di chief priest dem answer, "We no get any king except Caesar."

Dem Hand Am Over

So den im hand am over give dem make dem go nail am for cross. So dem carry Jesus, As im dey carry im own cross, im comot go di place wey dem dey call Di Place of Skull, wey dem dey call Golgotha for Aramaic language. Na dia dem nail am for cross, wit two oda pipo, one for each side, Jesus for di middle. Pilate sef write one sign put am for di cross: Jesus of Nazareth, King of di Jews. Plenty Jews dem read dis sign, bicos di place wey dem nail Jesus for cross dey near di city; dem write am for Aramaic, Latin, and Greek. So di Jewish chief priest dem tell Pilate, "No write ‘Di King of di Jews,’ but write ‘Dis man tok say, I be King of di Jews.’"

Pilate answer, "Wetin I don write, I don write."

Afta dem nail Jesus for cross, di soldier dem take im cloth, share am for four part, one for each soldier, and dem take di tunic too. Di tunic no get seam, na one full piece dem weave am from up to down. So dem tok give demself, "Make we no tear am, but make we cast lot to see who go get am" — so dat di Scripture go come pass: "Dem share my cloth among demself, and dem cast lot for my garment." So na so di soldier dem do.

Im mama, im mama sister, Mary di wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stand near Jesus im cross.

Wen Jesus see im mama and di disciple wey im love dey stand dia, im tell am, "Woman, see your son." Den im tell di disciple, "See your mama." From dat hour, di disciple carry am go im own house.

E Don Finish

Afta dis one, as Jesus know say everytin don finish now, im tok, so dat Scripture go come pass, "Water dey thirst me."

One jar full of sour wine dey dia; dem soak sponge inside am, put am for hyssop stick, and lift am go im mouth.

Jesus take di sour wine and tok, "E don finish." Im bow im head and give up im spirit.

Bicos na Preparation Day, and dem no want di bodi dem to remain for di cross during di Sabbath—bicos dat Sabbath na special day—di Jews dem beg Pilate make dem break dia leg and carry di bodi dem comot. So soldier dem come break di leg of di first man, den di oda one wey dem nail for cross wit am. But wen dem reach Jesus, and dem see say im don die already, dem no break im leg. But one of di soldier dem pierce im side wit spear, and blood and water come comot sharp-sharp. Di person wey see am wit im own eye don testify—im testimony na true, and im know say na true im dey tok—so dat una sef go fit believe. Bicos dis tins happen so dat di Scripture go come pass: "Dem no go break even one of im bone." And again anoda Scripture tok say, "Dem go look di person wey dem pierce."

Joseph and Nicodemus

Afta dat, Joseph of Arimathea—wey be disciple of Jesus, but for secret, bicos im dey fear di Jews dem—beg Pilate make im carry Jesus im bodi comot. Pilate gree, so im come carry am comot. Nicodemus, wey first come meet Jesus for night, come too, dey bring mixture of myrrh and aloes, around seventy-five pound. Dem take Jesus im bodi and wrap am wit linen cloth and di spice dem, as na di Jewish way to bury pesin. For di place wey dem nail am for cross, one garden dey dia, and inside di garden one new tomb dey wey dem never put anybody inside. Bicos na di Jewish Preparation day, and di tomb dey near, dem lay Jesus dia.
