Genesis 21

21 ¹Now our Papa visit Sarah, just as e talk before, and e do for her wetin e promise. ²Sarah come get belle, and she born Abraham one pikin for im old age, for di very time wey our Papa don promise am. ³Abraham call di pikin wey Sarah born for am Isaac. ⁴Abraham circumcise im pikin Isaac wen e reach eight days old, just as our Papa command am. ⁵Abraham don reach one hundred years old wen dem born im pikin Isaac for am. ⁶Sarah talk say, “our Papa don make me laugh; everybody wey go hear go laugh with me.” ^a a v6 Isaac mean 'e dey laugh' for Hebrew — di way Sarah laugh for di promise wey no fit happen na im become im very name. ⁷She add say, “Who for don tell Abraham say Sarah go breastfeed pikin? But see, I don born am one pikin for im old age.”

Di Feast For Isaac

¹⁷Our Papa hear di boy voice; im messenger call Hagar from heaven: “Wetin dey worry you, Hagar? No fear—our Papa don hear di boy voice for where e dey lie. ¹⁸Stand up, lift di boy and hold am for hand, because I go make am one great nation.”

¹⁹Then our Papa open her eyes; she see one well of water, go and fill di water-skin, then give di boy water make e drink.

²⁰Our Papa dey with di boy as e dey grow up. E live for di wilderness and become person wey sabi shoot arrow. ²¹E live for di wilderness of Paran, and im mama find am one wife from Egypt.

Abimelech Im Oath

²²For that time, Abimelech and Phicol, di commander of im army, talk give Abraham say, “God dey with you for everything wey you dey do. ²³So swear give me here by God say you no go betray me, my children, or my descendants. Show me and dis land where you don live as stranger di same kindness wey I don show you.”

²⁴Abraham talk say, “I swear am.” ²⁵Then Abraham complain to Abimelech about one well of water wey Abimelech im servants don seize. ²⁶Abimelech answer say, “I no know who do dis thing. You no tell me, and na today alone I hear am.”

²⁷Abraham take sheep and cattle give Abimelech, and di two of dem make Covenant. ²⁸Abraham set apart seven female lamb from di flock, ²⁹and Abimelech ask Abraham say, “Wetin dis seven female lamb wey you set apart mean?”

³⁰E answer say, “Collect dis seven female lamb from my hand as proof say na me dig dis well.” ³¹Na so dem call that place Beersheba, because na there di two of dem swear one oath. ^b b v31 Beersheba carry double meaning of “well of seven” and “well of di oath” — di two meaning fit dis scene where Abraham swear oath for di side of di well. ³²So dem make Covenant for Beersheba. Then Abimelech and Phicol, im army commander, go back to Philistine land. ³³Abraham plant one tamarisk tree for Beersheba, and there e call on di name of our Papa, El Olam—our Papa wey no dey ever end. ^c c v33 El Olam mean 'di Everlasting God.' Abraham give our Papa dis name for Beersheba — di one wey no dey ever end, wey im Covenant promise dey hold across every generation. ³⁴And Abraham stay for di land of di Philistines for a long time.
