John 7

7 ¹After all dis, Jesus dey waka around Galilee, e no wan enter Judea because di Jewish leaders wey dey there dey find chance to kill am. ²But di Jewish Festival of Booths don near. ^a a v2 Di Feast of Tabernacles (Booths) na festival wey dey last one week for autumn time, wey Israel dey stay for temporary shelter, dey remember di years wey dem spend for wilderness. ³Im brothers tell am, "Comot for here go Judea, so dat your disciples fit see di works wey you dey do too. ⁴Person wey dey find make people notice am no dey hide wetin e dey do. If na dis kind things you dey do, show yourself to di world." ⁵Because even im own brothers no believe am.

⁶So Jesus tell dem, "My time never reach yet, but for una, any time correct.

⁷"Di world no fit hate una, but e dey hate me, because I dey testify say im works na evil. ⁸Una sef go up go di festival; I no dey go up go dis festival, because my time never fully reach."

⁹After e talk dis one, e stay for Galilee. ¹⁰After im brothers don go up go di festival, e sef go up—but no be openly, na for hidden way.

¹¹So di Jewish leaders dey find am for di festival, dey ask, "Na where e dey?" ¹²Plenty murmuring about am spread among di crowd: some talk, "E good," others talk, "No o, e dey deceive di crowd." ¹³But nobody talk about am openly, because dem dey fear di Jewish leaders. ¹⁴Around di middle of di festival, Jesus go up enter di temple, e begin teach.

¹⁵Di Jewish leaders wonder, dem ask, "How dis man take sabi so much wey e no learn book?"

¹⁶Jesus answer dem, "My teaching no be my own—e come from di one wey send me. ¹⁷Anybody wey wan do wetin our Papa want go sabi whether my teaching come from my Papa or na my own I dey talk. ¹⁸Person wey dey talk im own dey find im own glory, but person wey dey find di glory of di one wey send am, na true person, no lie dey inside am. ¹⁹No be Moses give una di law? But none of una dey obey di law. Why una dey try kill me?"

²⁰Di crowd answer, "You get demon! Na who dey try kill you?"

²¹Jesus answer, "I do one work, and una all dey wonder.

²²"Moses give una circumcision—no be from Moses sef, na from di fathers wey come before—and una dey circumcise man for Sabbath day. ²³If dem fit circumcise man for Sabbath so dat di law of Moses no go break, why una dey vex for me because I make whole man well for Sabbath day? ²⁴Stop to judge by wetin eye dey see, judge with correct judgement."

Na Where E Come From?

²⁵Then some people of Jerusalem talk, "No be dis man be di one wey dem wan kill? ²⁶But see am dey talk openly, and dem no talk anything to am. Abi di rulers don truly sabi say dis one na di Christ? ²⁷But we sabi where dis man come from. When di Christ come, nobody go sabi where e come from."

²⁸Then Jesus, wey dey teach for di temple, cry out: "Una sabi me, and una sabi where I come from. But I no come on my own—di one wey send me na true, and una no sabi am. ²⁹I sabi am, because na from am I come, and na im send me."

³⁰So dem try grab am, but nobody touch am, because im hour never reach yet. ³¹But plenty for di crowd believe am, dem dey ask, "When di Christ come, e go do more signs pass wetin dis man don do?" ³²Di Pharisees hear di crowd dey murmur dis things about am, so di chief priests and Pharisees send temple guards go grab am.

³³So Jesus talk, "I still dey with una small time, and then I go go meet di one wey send me. ³⁴Una go find me but una no go see me; una no fit come where I dey."

³⁵So di Jewish leaders dey ask demselves, "Na where dis one wan go wey we no go fit find am? E wan go meet our people wey scatter among di Greeks, and teach di Greeks? ³⁶Wetin e mean say: 'Una go find me, but una no go see me,' and 'Where I dey, una no fit come'?"

³⁷For di last, big day of di festival, Jesus stand up, e call out, "Anybody wey thirst, make e come meet me and drink. ³⁸Anybody wey believe me, as Scripture talk, river of living water go flow comot from im heart."

³⁹E talk dis one about the Holy Spirit, wey people wey believe am go receive; di Spirit never come yet, because Jesus never receive glory yet.

⁴⁰When dem hear dis words, some of di crowd talk, "Dis one na di Prophet true-true." ⁴¹Others talk, "Dis na di Christ." But others ask, "How di Christ go take come from Galilee? ⁴²No be Scripture talk say di Christ go come from David im family line, and from Bethlehem, David im village?" ⁴³So di crowd divide over am. ⁴⁴Some of dem wan grab am, but nobody put hand for am.

⁴⁵So di temple guards go back meet di chief priests and Pharisees, wey ask dem, "Why una no bring am come?"

⁴⁶Di guards answer, "Nobody don ever talk di way dis man dey talk."

⁴⁷"Abi dem don deceive una too?" na so di Pharisees answer. ⁴⁸"Any of di rulers or of di Pharisees don believe am? ⁴⁹But dis crowd, wey no sabi anything about di law—curse dey on top dem."

⁵⁰Nicodemus, wey bin go meet Jesus before and na one of dem, ask dem, ⁵¹"Abi our law dey condemn man before dem first hear am and find out wetin e dey do?"

⁵²Dem answer, "You sef come from Galilee? Search well, and see: no prophet dey rise from Galilee."
