John 9

Chapter 9.

9 ¹ As Jesus dey pass, e see one man wey be blind from di day dem born am. ² Im disciples ask am, "Rabbi, na who sin, dis man or im papa and mama, wey make dem born am blind?"

³ Jesus answer, "No be dis man wey sin, no be im papa and mama too. Dis one happen so dat di work of our Papa fit show for im life." ^a a v3 Jesus refuse to see di man im blind eye as punishment for sin. E point instead to our Papa, wey im redemption work go show for di very place wey di world only see failure. ⁴ "We must do di work of di one wey send me while e still be day; night dey come, wey nobody fit work." ⁵ "As long as I dey for dis world, na I be di light of di world."

⁶ As e talk dis one, e spit for ground, use di saliva make mud, and rub am for di man im eyes.

⁷ E tell am, ‘Go, wash for di pool of Siloam’ (wey mean Sent). So di man go, wash, and come back, and e fit see.

⁸ Im neighbours and dem wey bin dey see am dey beg before say, "No be dis one wey dey sit dey beg before?" ⁹ Some talk say, "Na am." Others talk say, "No o, na person wey resemble am." But e keep dey talk say, "Na me be am."

¹⁰ So dem ask am, "Then how your eyes take open?"

¹¹ E answer, "Di man wey dem dey call Jesus make mud, rub am for my eyes, and tell me, ‘Go Siloam go wash.’ So I go, wash, and I fit see."

¹² Dem tell am, "Where e dey?" E talk say, "I no know."

¹³ Dem carry di man wey bin blind go meet di Pharisees. ¹⁴ Now na Sabbath day when Jesus make di mud open im eyes. ¹⁵ So di Pharisees too ask am again how e take fit see. E tell dem, "E put mud for my eyes, I wash, and I dey see."

¹⁶ Some Pharisees talk say, "Dis man no come from God—e no dey keep di Sabbath." Others talk say, "How man wey be sinner fit do dis kind sign?" So division come dey among dem.

¹⁷ Dem ask di blind man again, "Wetin you talk about am, since na im open your eyes?" E say, "Na prophet e be."

¹⁸ Di Jews no believe say e bin blind and come fit see, until dem call di papa and mama of di man wey come dey see. ¹⁹ Dem ask dem, "Na dis one be your son wey una talk say dem born am blind? How e take dey see now?"

²⁰ Im papa and mama answer, "We know say na our son be dis and say dem born am blind." ²¹ "But how e take dey see now, we no know; or who open im eyes, we no know. Ask am—e don grow, e go fit talk for imsef." ²² Im papa and mama talk dis one becos dem dey fear di Jews, since di Jews don already gree say if anybody confess Jesus as di Christ, dem go comot am from di synagogue. ^b b v22 To comot person from di synagogue mean say dem go cut am off completely from di Jewish community, for social and for religion. ²³ Na why im papa and mama talk say, "E don grow; ask am."

²⁴ So dem call di man wey bin blind again and talk say, "Give God di glory. We know say dis man na sinner."

²⁵ E answer, "Whether e be sinner, I no know. One thing I know: I bin blind, now I dey see."

²⁶ Dem tell am, "Wetin e do you? How e take open your eyes?"

²⁷ E answer dem, "I don already tell una, and una no listen. Why una wan hear am again? Una too wan become im disciples?"

²⁸ Dem come dey insult am, dey talk say, "Na you be im disciple, but we na disciples of Moses." ²⁹ "We know say God talk to Moses, but dis man, we no know where e come from."

³⁰ Di man answer dem, "Na dis one be di wonder: una no know where e come from, yet e open my eyes." ³¹ "We know say God no dey hear sinners, but if anybody dey reverence God and dey do im will, God dey hear am." ³² "Since di world begin, nobody never hear say person open di eyes of somebody wey dem born blind." ³³ "If dis man no come from God, e no fit do anything."

³⁴ Dem answer am, "Na inside sin dem born you complete, and you come dey teach us?" and dem throw am comot.

You Believe?

³⁵ Jesus hear say dem throw am comot, and when e find am, e talk say, "You believe for di Pikin of Man?"

³⁶ E answer, "And na who be am, sir, make I fit believe for am?"

³⁷ Jesus tell am, "You don see am, and na im be di one wey dey talk with you."

³⁸ E talk say, "Oga, I believe," and e worship am.

³⁹ Jesus talk say, "I come dis world for judgement, so dat dem wey no dey see go fit see, and dem wey dey see go turn blind."

⁴⁰ Some Pharisees wey dey with am hear dis one and talk say, "So we too dey blind?"

⁴¹ Jesus tell dem, "If una be blind, una for no get sin; but since una talk say, ‘We dey see,’ una sin still dey."
