1 Kings 18

18 ¹After plenty days, for di third year, our Papa word come reach Elijah say: “Go, show yourself to Ahab, and I go send rain come di land.”

²So Elijah go show imself to Ahab. Di famine bin serious well well for Samaria. ³Ahab call Obadiah, wey dey oversee di whole house. (Now Obadiah dey fear our Papa well well. ⁴As Jezebel bin dey kill our Papa prophets, Obadiah bin don take one hundred prophets, hide dem fifty-fifty inside cave, and dey give dem bread and water.). ⁵Ahab tell Obadiah say, “Waka go every spring and valley for di land; maybe we go find grass wey go make di horses and mules stay alive, so we no go lose any animal.”

⁶So dem share di land make dem waka cross am; Ahab waka one way by imself, and Obadiah waka anoda way by imself. ⁷As Obadiah dey waka, Elijah just come meet am for road. As e recognize am, e fall face-down and say, “Na you be dis, my oga Elijah?”

⁸E tell am say, “Na me. Go tell your oga say, ‘Elijah dey here.’”

⁹Obadiah ask, “Wetin I do wrong, wey you wan hand your servant give Ahab make e kill me? ¹⁰As your Papa dey alive, no nation or kingdom dey wey my oga never send person go find you. When dem talk say, ‘E no dey here,’ e make di kingdom or nation swear say dem no fit find you. ¹¹And now you dey talk say, ‘Go tell your oga say, “Elijah dey here.”’ ¹²Di moment I comot from you, di Spirit of our Papa go carry you go where I no fit know; den I go come tell Ahab, e no fit find you, and e go kill me—but me your servant don dey revere our Papa since I be pikin. ¹³Dem never tell my oga wetin I do wen Jezebel dey kill di prophets of our Papa—how I hide one hundred of our Papa prophets, fifty men inside one cave, and dey feed dem bread and water? ¹⁴And now you dey talk say, ‘Go tell your oga say, “Elijah dey here”’—and e go kill me!”

¹⁵Elijah say, “As di Papa of heaven army dey alive, di one wey I dey stand before am, today I go surely go show myself to am.”

¹⁶So Obadiah go meet Ahab and tell am, and Ahab go meet Elijah. ¹⁷Wen Ahab see Elijah, Ahab tell am say, “Na you be dis, you wey dey cause wahala for Israel?”

¹⁸E answer say, “No be me dey cause wahala for Israel—na you and your papa house, because una don abandon di commandments of our Papa and dey follow di Baals. ¹⁹So now send word make you gather all Israel come meet me for Mount Carmel, wit di 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah, wey dey chop for Jezebel table.”

²⁰So Ahab send word among all di people of Israel and gather di prophets for Mount Carmel. ²¹Elijah come near all di people and say, “How long una go dey waka between two mind? If our Papa na God, follow am; if na Baal, follow am.” But di people no answer am even one word.

²²Elijah tell di people say, “Na me only remain as prophet of our Papa, but Baal prophets na 450 men. ²³Give us two bull. Make dem pick one, cut am, put am on top di wood, but no put fire under am; I go prepare di oda one, put am on top di wood, and no put fire under am. ²⁴Den make una call di name of una god, and I go call di name of our Papa; di God wey answer wit fire, na im be God.” All di people say, “Wetin you talk correct.”

²⁵Elijah tell Baal prophets say, “Una plenty, so pick one bull and prepare am first; den call di name of una god—but no light any fire under am.”

²⁶So dem take di bull wey dem give dem and prepare am, and dey call Baal name from morning till afternoon: “Baal, answer us!” But no voice dey, nobody answer. And dem dey dance round di altar wey dem build.

²⁷For afternoon Elijah dey mock dem say: “Shout louder! Na god e be—maybe e dey deep inside thought, or e dey ease imself, or e travel; or e dey sleep and person suppose wake am.”

²⁸So dem shout louder and cut demself wit sword and spear, as na dem custom, until blood gush comot for dem body. ²⁹Wen afternoon pass, dem still dey rave on till di time of di evening offering, but no voice dey, no answer, nobody pay mind.

³⁰Elijah tell all di people say, “Come near me.” All of dem come near, and e repair di altar of our Papa wey dem bin don break down.

³¹Elijah take twelve stone, one for each tribe of Jacob sons, di ones wey our Papa word bin come reach say: “Your name go be Israel.”

³²Wit di stones e build one altar for di name of our Papa, and e dig one trench round am wey big reach for about fourteen quart of seed. ³³E arrange di wood, cut di bull for pieces, and put am on top di wood. E say, “Fill four jar wit water and pour am on top di burnt offering and di wood. ³⁴Do am again,” e say, and dem do am again. “Do am di third time,” e say, and dem do am di third time. ³⁵Di water run round di altar, and e even fill di trench wit water.

³⁶For di time of di evening offering, Elijah di prophet come near and say, “Our Papa, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, make e clear today say na you be God for Israel, say na me be your servant, and say na because of your word I do all dis things. ³⁷Answer me, our Papa, answer me, so dis people go know say you, our Papa, na God, and say you don turn dem heart come back.”

³⁸Den di fire of our Papa fall, chop di burnt offering, di wood, di stones, and di dust, and lick up di water wey dey inside di trench. ³⁹Wen all di people see am, dem fall face-down and cry, “Our Papa, na im be God! Our Papa, na im be God!” ^a a v39 Di people wey bin don waka follow Baal fall down and call di name of di true God — di Papa dey draw im children wey waka comot come back to imself.

⁴⁰Elijah tell dem say, “Grab Baal prophets; make none of dem escape.” Dem grab dem, and Elijah carry dem go down to Kishon Valley and kill dem for there.

⁴¹Den Elijah tell Ahab say, “Go up, chop and drink, because di sound of heavy rain wey dey roar don dey come.”

⁴²Ahab go up go chop and drink, while Elijah climb reach di top of Carmel. For there e bend down for ground, e put im face between im knees. ⁴³E tell im servant say, “Go up, look toward di sea.” E go up, look, and say, “Nothing dey there.” Seven times Elijah say, “Go back.”

⁴⁴Di seventh time, di servant say, “Look, one small cloud, small like man hand, dey rise from di sea.” Elijah say, “Go up and tell Ahab, ‘Yoke your chariot and go down before di rain block you.’”

⁴⁵Meanwhile di sky come dark wit cloud and wind, heavy rain come fall, and Ahab ride comot go Jezreel. ⁴⁶Di hand of our Papa dey on top Elijah; e tuck im cloak inside im belt and run go ahead of Ahab reach di entrance of Jezreel.
