Luke 8

Chapter 8.

8 ¹Small time after, Jesus waka go through towns and villages, dey preach and dey announce di good news of di kingdom of our Papa. Di twelve dey with am, ²and some women wey e don heal from evil spirits and sickness: Mary, wey dem dey call Magdalene, wey seven demons comot from her body, ³and Joanna, di wife of Chuza wey be Herod im manager, and Susanna, and plenty other women, wey dey use dia own money take support dem.

⁴As plenty crowd gather, and people dey come to am from every town, e talk with parable:

⁵“One farmer comot go plant seed. As e dey plant, some seed fall for road side, people trample am, and bird for sky chop am. ⁶Other seed fall for rock; e sprout, but e dry up because water no dey. ⁷Some fall among di thorn, and di thorn grow up with am and choke am. ⁸Other seed fall for good ground, e grow, and e bring fruit wey pass hundred times.” As e talk dis one, e shout, “Whoever get ear to hear, make e hear.”

⁹Im disciples ask am wetin dis parable mean.

¹⁰E talk say, “Dem don give una to sabi di secret things of di kingdom of our Papa; but di rest dey get parable, so that ‘as dem dey look dem no go see, and as dem dey hear dem no go understand.’”

¹¹“Now dis na wetin di parable mean: Di seed na di word of our Papa. ¹²Di ones for road side na di people wey hear; then di devil come and carry di word comot from dia heart, so that dem no go believe and get salvation. ¹³Di ones for rock na dem wey hear di word and receive am with joy, but dem no get root; dem believe for small time, then dem fall away when trouble come test dem. ¹⁴Wetin fall among thorn: na dem wey hear, but as dem dey go, di worry of dis life, and money, and enjoyment dey choke dem, and dia fruit no dey ever ripe. ¹⁵But di one for good ground: na dem wey hear di word with honest and good heart, hold am tight, and bring fruit through perseverance.”

Light Wey Nobody Fit Hide

¹⁶“Nobody dey light lamp and cover am with pot, or put am under bed; instead, e go put am for stand, so that people wey dey enter fit see di light. ¹⁷For nothing wey hide dey wey no go show, and nothing wey dem keep secret dey wey no go come out and enter light. ¹⁸So watch how una dey listen, because whoever get, dem go give am more; but whoever no get, even di small wey e think say e get, dem go collect am comot.”

Di Family of Our Papa

¹⁹Im mama and im brothers come to am but dem no fit reach am because of di crowd. ²⁰And dem tell am, “Your mama and your brothers dey stand for outside, dem wan see you.”

²¹But e answer dem, “My mama and my brothers na dem wey dey hear di word of our Papa and dey do am.”

Jesus Command di Storm

²²One day Jesus and im disciples enter boat. E tell dem, “Make we cross go di other side of di lake.” So dem set out.

²³As dem dey sail, sleep catch am. Big wind blow come down for di lake; water begin fill di boat, and dem dey for danger. ²⁴Dem wake am, dey talk, “Oga, Oga, we dey die!” E get up, talk hard give di wind and di wild water; dem stop, and everywhere come calm. ²⁵E ask dem, “Where una faith dey?” Fear and wonder catch dem, and dem dey talk to one another, “Who be dis man? E dey command even di wind and water, and dem dey obey am.”

Man Wey Dem Free From Legion

²⁶Then dem sail go di region of di Gerasenes, wey dey face Galilee. ²⁷As Jesus step for land, one man wey demon dey inside am from di city meet am. For long time e no dey wear cloth, and e no dey stay for house but among di graves. ²⁸As e see Jesus, e shout, fall down for im front, and cry loud, “Wetin you want with me, Jesus, Pikin of di Most High God? I beg you, no torment me!” ²⁹Because Jesus don command di unclean spirit make e comot from di man, for e don dey catch am plenty times; even though dem dey guard am and tie am with chain and iron, e go break dem, and di demon go drive am go bush.

³⁰Jesus ask am, “Wetin be your name?” E talk say, “Legion,” because plenty demons don enter am.

³¹And dem beg am make e no command dem make dem go enter di bottomless pit.

³²Big herd of pig dey chop for di hill side there. Di demons beg am make e allow dem enter di pig, and e allow dem. ³³So di demons comot from di man and enter di pig; di whole herd rush run down di cliff enter di lake and drown.

³⁴Di people wey dey mind di pig see am, run comot, and report am for di city and for di village area. ³⁵Di crowd come out to see wetin happen. As dem reach Jesus, dem find di man wey di demons don comot from am dey sit for Jesus im feet, e don wear cloth and im mind don clear—and fear catch dem. ³⁶And di people wey see am tell dem how di man wey demon bin dey inside am take heal. ³⁷All di people of di Gerasene region beg am make e comot from dem, because big fear grip dem. So e enter di boat and go back. ³⁸Di man wey di demons don comot from am beg make e follow am go, but Jesus send am go, e talk say,

³⁹“Go back your house; tell dem how much our Papa don do for you.” E go, dey announce for di whole city how much Jesus don do for am.

Faith Heal Am and Raise Am Up

⁴⁰Now when Jesus come back, di crowd welcome am, because dem all bin dey wait for am. ⁴¹One man wey dem dey call Jairus, wey be leader for synagogue, come and fall for Jesus im feet, dey beg am make e come im house, ⁴²because e get only one daughter, wey be like twelve years old, wey dey die. As Jesus dey go, crowd dey press am from every side. ⁴³One woman wey blood don dey comot for her body for twelve years; she don spend all her money for doctor, but nobody fit heal am. ⁴⁴She come from behind am, touch di edge of im cloth, and one time di blood wey dey comot stop.

⁴⁵Jesus talk say, “Who touch me?” When everybody deny am, Peter talk say, “Oga, di crowd dey gather and dey press you.”

⁴⁶But Jesus talk say, “Somebody touch me, because I feel say power comot from my body.”

⁴⁷As di woman see say she no fit hide, she come dey shake, fall for im front, and for front of everybody she talk why she touch am and how she heal one time.

⁴⁸And e tell am, “My daughter, your faith don heal you; go with peace.”

⁴⁹As e still dey talk, somebody from di synagogue leader im house come talk say, “Your daughter don die; no worry di Teacher again.”

⁵⁰But Jesus hear am and answer am, “No fear; just believe, and she go live.”

⁵¹As e reach di house, e no allow anybody enter with am except Peter, John, James, and di pikin her papa and mama.

⁵²Everybody dey cry and dey mourn for am, but e talk say, “No cry, because she no die, na sleep she dey sleep.”

⁵³And dem laugh am, because dem sabi say she don die.

⁵⁴But e hold her hand and call out, “Pikin, get up.”

⁵⁵Her spirit come back, and one time she get up. E tell dem make dem give am something chop. ⁵⁶Her papa and mama wonder well well, but e command dem make dem no tell anybody wetin happen.
