Chapter 9.

Jesus call di twelve come togeda, e give dem power and authority ova all di demons and to heal sickness. And e send dem go out to preach di kingdom of our Papa and to heal di sick people.

E tell dem say, “No carry anytin for di road: no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, and no carry two cloth each. Any house wey you enter, stay dia, and comot from dia. Anywia wey dem no go welcome una, shake di dust comot for una leg as una dey comot dat town, make e be witness against dem.”

So dem comot go, dem waka from village to village, dey preach di good news and dey heal people everywia.

Herod di tetrarch hear all di tins wey dey happen, and e no fit understand am, becos some people talk say John don rise from death, odas talk say na Elijah show face, and odas still talk say one of di prophets of old-time don rise. Herod talk say, “Na me cut John head—so who be dis wey I dey hear dis kind tins about?” And e continue to find way to see am.

Five Bread Feed Five Thousand People

Wen di apostles come back, dem tell Jesus all di tins wey dem don do. E carry dem, and dem comot go one town wey dem call Bethsaida to dey alone. But di crowd sabi am and follow am. E welcome dem, e tok give dem about our Papa kingdom, and e heal dose wey need am. As di day dey end, di Twelve come tell am say, “Send di crowd make dem go find place to sleep and food for di villages and di area around us—we dey for lonely place here.”

E talk say, “Una una give dem sometin make dem chop.” Dem talk say, “Na only five bread and two fish we get—except we go buy food for dis whole crowd.”

Becos di men bin dey about 5,000. E tell im disciples say, “Make dem sidon for groups of about fifty each.”

Dem do so, and make everybody sidon. E take di five bread and two fish, e look up go heaven, e bless dem and break dem, den e continue to give dem give di disciples to share give di crowd. Everybody chop and belle full; di leftover pieces fill twelve basket.

Who You Talk Say I Be?

One time, wen Jesus dey pray alone and im disciples dey near am, e ask dem say, “Who di crowd dey talk say I be?”

Dem answer say, “John di Baptist. Odas talk say Elijah. Odas still talk say one old-time prophet don rise.”

“But who una talk say I be?” e ask. Peter answer say, “The Christ of our Papa.” ^a

The Pikin of Man Must Suffer

Jesus warn dem well-well, e order dem say make dem no tell anybody dis tin,

e talk say, “The Pikin of Man must suffer plenty tins and di elders, di chief priests, and di scribes go reject am, and dem go kill am, and for di third day e go rise.”

Den e tell all of dem say, “Anybody wey wan come afta me must deny imsef and carry im cross every day and follow me. Becos anybody wey wan save im life go lose am, but anybody wey lose im life becos of me go save am. Becos wetin e go help person if e gain di whole world, but e lose or throwway imsef? Anybody wey shame of me and my words, the Pikin of Man go shame of am wen e come inside im own glory and di glory of di Papa and di holy angels. But I dey tell una true-true, some people wey stand here no go taste death before dem see di kingdom of our Papa.”

Di Papa Glorify Im Pikin

About eight days afta dis words, Jesus carry Peter, John, and James climb one mountain go pray. As e dey pray, di way im face bin look change, and im cloth turn white wey dey shine. And two men bin dey tok wit am—Moses and Elijah, wey show face inside glory, dey tok about im going, wey e dey about to fulfill for Jerusalem.

Peter and im companions bin dey heavy wit sleep; but wen dem wake fully, dem see im glory and di two men wey stand wit am. As di men dey comot from am, Peter tell Jesus say, “Master, e good say we dey here. Make we build three shelter—one for you, one for Moses, one for Elijah.” E no sabi wetin e dey talk.

As e still dey tok, one cloud come cover dem wit shadow; and as dem enter inside am, fear catch dem.

One voice from di cloud talk say, “Dis na my Pikin, my Chosen One—make una listen to am!” ^b

Wen di voice finish, dem find Jesus alone. Dem keep quiet, and for dose days dem no tell anybody wetin dem don see.

One Papa Im Pikin Free From Darkness

Di next day, wen dem come down from di mountain, one big crowd meet am. One man from di crowd shout say, “Teacher, abeg look my son, becos na my only pikin. One spirit dey catch am, and sharp-sharp e dey shout; e dey shake am tey e go dey foam for mout, e no dey wan leave am, e dey beat am well-well. I beg your disciples make dem drive am comot, but dem no fit.”

Jesus answer say, “Una generation wey no dey believe and wey twist, how long I go stay wit una and bear una? Bring your son come here.”

As di boy dey come, di demon throway am down and shake am. But Jesus rebuke di unclean spirit, e heal di boy, and e give am back to im papa.

Dem Go Hand Over The Pikin of Man

Everybody surprise for di greatness of our Papa. As everybody still dey wonder about all di tins wey Jesus dey do, e tell im disciples say,

“Store dis words for una ear: dem go soon hand over the Pikin of Man into human hand.”

But dem no understand dis word—dem hide am from dem so dat dem no fit catch di meaning—and dem dey fear to ask am about am.

Now argument rise among dem about who be di greatest among dem. But Jesus, wey sabi di tot for dem heart, take one child and stand am for im side,

and e tell dem say, “Anybody wey receive dis child for my name receive me, and anybody wey receive me receive di One wey send me. Becos di smallest among all of una—na dat one be di great one.”

John talk say, “Master, we see one person wey dey drive out demons for your name and we try stop am, becos e no dey follow wit us.”

“No stop am,” Jesus tell am, “becos anybody wey no dey against una dey for una side.”

Jesus Face Jerusalem Straight

Wen di days near for dem to take am go heaven, Jesus make up im mind and face Jerusalem straight to go. E send messengers go before am. Dem go and enter one Samaritan village to prepare tin for am, but di people dia no welcome am, becos e dey head go Jerusalem. Wen di disciples James and John see dis tin, dem talk say, “Oga, you wan make we call fire from heaven make e burn dem finish?”

But e turn and rebuke dem. And dem go anoda village.

Wetin E Cost To Follow Jesus

As dem dey waka di road, one person tell am say, “I go follow you anywia wey you go.”

Jesus talk say, “Fox get hole, bird for sky get nest, but the Pikin of Man no get anywia to lay im head.”

E tell anoda one say, “Follow me.” E answer say, “Oga, first make I go bury my papa.”

But Jesus tell am say, “Make di dead people bury dem own dead, but you go preach di kingdom of our Papa.”

Anoda one still talk say, “I go follow you, Oga, but first make I go say bye-bye to my people for house.”

Jesus answer say, “Nobody wey put im hand for plow and dey look back fit for our Papa kingdom.”
