Exodus 32

32 ¹When di people see say Moses delay to come down from di mountain, dem gather round Aaron and tell am, "Stand up, make gods for us wey go dey go before us. Dis Moses, di man wey bring us comot from di land of Egypt—we no know wetin happen to am."

²Aaron tell dem, "Comot di gold earrings wey dey for di ears of una wives, una sons, and una daughters, and bring dem come give me."

³So all di people comot di gold rings from dem ears and bring dem come give Aaron. ⁴He collect di gold from dem hand, use engraving tool shape am, and melt am cast am into calf. Den dem talk, "Dis na your gods, Israel, wey bring you comot from di land of Egypt!"

⁵When Aaron see dis, he build altar for im front and announce, "Tomorrow na festival for our Papa." ^a a v5 Aaron dey try wrap di calf inside our Papa im name, dey call festival for am — but to mix idol worship with true worship na di very sin wey dis chapter dey expose.

⁶Dem wake up early di next day, offer burnt offerings, and bring peace offerings. Di people sidon to chop and drink, den dem stand up to play and dance anyhow.

⁷Den our Papa tell Moses, "Go down, because your people, wey you bring comot from di land of Egypt, don spoil demself. ⁸Dem don quick turn from di way wey I command dem, dem don make cast calf for demself, bow to am, sacrifice to am, and talk say, 'Israel, dis na your gods wey bring you comot from di land of Egypt.'"

⁹Our Papa tell Moses, "I don see dis people, and dem be stubborn people. ¹⁰So now, leave me alone, make my anger fit burn against dem and make I finish dem, and I go make you turn great nation."

¹¹Moses beg our Papa: "Why, our Papa, your anger go dey burn against your people, wey you bring comot from di land of Egypt with great power and mighty hand?

¹²Why di people of Egypt go talk say, 'Na with bad mind he bring dem comot, to kill dem for di mountains and wipe dem comot from di face of di earth'? Turn from your burning anger; change your mind about dis disaster against your people.

¹³Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, wey you swear by yourself and tell dem: 'I go multiply your children like di stars of heaven, and I go give your children all dis land wey I don promise, and dem go inherit am forever.'"

¹⁴So our Papa change im mind about di disaster wey he talk say he go bring on im people.

¹⁵Moses turn and go down from di mountain, di two tablets of di testimony dey for im hand, tablets wey dem write on di two sides, front and back. ¹⁶Di tablets na di work of our Papa; di writing na di writing of our Papa, wey dem engrave on di tablets.

¹⁷When Joshua hear di sound of di people dey shout, he tell Moses, "Na di sound of war dey for di camp."

¹⁸Moses answer, "Na neither di sound of victory shout, nor di sound of defeat cry—na di sound of singing I dey hear." ¹⁹As Moses come near di camp and see di calf and di dancing, im anger blow up; he throway di tablets from im hand, break dem to piece for di foot of di mountain. ²⁰He take di calf wey dem make, burn am for fire, grind am to powder, scatter am on di water, and make di Israelites drink am.

²¹Moses talk to Aaron, "Wetin dis people do you, wey you bring such great sin come on dem?"

²²Aaron talk, "No vex, my oga; you sabi say dis people dey ready to do bad. ²³Dem tell me, 'Make gods for us wey go dey go before us. Dis Moses, di man wey bring us comot from di land of Egypt—we no fit talk wetin happen to am.' ²⁴I tell dem, 'Whoever get gold, comot am.' Dem give me; I throw am inside di fire, and dis calf come comot."

²⁵Moses see say di people don loose demself anyhow, because Aaron don let dem loose demself anyhow, come turn thing wey dem enemies go take laugh dem. ²⁶Moses stand for di camp gate and talk, "Whoever dey for our Papa side, come to me!" And all di Levites gather round am.

²⁷He tell dem, "Na dis our Papa talk: Every one of una, tie una sword for una side. Waka up and down through di camp, from gate to gate, and kill your brother, your friend, your neighbor."

²⁸Di Levites do as Moses command, and dat day like 3,000 of di people fall die. ²⁹Moses talk, "Today una don set unaself apart for our Papa, each one even against im own son and im brother, so he fit bless una today."

³⁰Di next day Moses tell di people, "Una don sin well well. So now I go go up to our Papa—maybe I fit make atonement for una sin."

³¹Moses go back to our Papa and talk, "Oh, dis people don sin well well, dem don make gods of gold for demself. ³²So now, if you go forgive dem sin—but if you no go, abeg blot me comot from di book wey you write." ^b b v32 God im 'book' na im record of dem wey belong to am — Moses dey offer im own place inside am so dat di people fit escape.

³³But our Papa tell Moses, "Na whoever sin against me, na im I go blot comot from my book. ³⁴Go now, lead di people go where I tell you; my angel go go before you. But for di day wey I go settle account, I go charge dem with dem sin."

³⁵Den our Papa strike di people with plague because of wetin dem do with di calf wey Aaron make.
