Book

Hope Dey for Man?

Tree wey dem cut down go sprout again once e smell water, but man go lie down and im no go rise again. Job dey wonder weda dead person fit live again, im imagine say dem hide am until the vex pass and then call am back, and im talk say God dey wear hope comot like water wey dey chop stone.

Chapter 14.

"Man, wey woman born, no get plenty days and im full of wahala. E dey come up like flower and e dey dry; e dey run comot like shadow and e no dey last. You dey fix your eye on person like dis? And you dey bring me come judgement with you? Who fit bring clean thing comot from dirty thing? Nobody. Since im days don already set, di number of im months dey with you, and you don put mark wey e no fit cross, look comot from am, make e fit rest, till e don finish im day like worker wey dem hire.

"For tree get hope: if dem cut am down, e go grow again, and im young branch no go fail. Even if im root don old for inside ground and im stump die for inside soil, once e smell water, e go bud and bring out branch like new plant. But man dey die and dem lay am down; person breathe im last breath, and where e dey? As water dey disappear from lake, and river dey waste away and dry up, na so man dey lie down and e no dey rise; till heaven no go dey again, e no go wake or make dem rouse am from im sleep.

"If only you go hide me for grave, cover me till your anger pass, set fix time for me, and remember me! If man die, e go live again? All di days of my hard work I go wait, till my new life come. You go call, and I go answer you; you go long for di work of your hand. For dat time you go count my step; you no go dey watch my sin. You go seal my rebellion inside bag, and you go cover my sin.

"But as mountain dey fall and scatter away, and dem move rock from im place, as water dey wear di stone away and im flood dey wash away di soil of di ground, na so you dey destroy man im hope. You overpower am forever, and e pass on; you spoil im face and send am comot. Im sons come get honour, and e no know am; dem bring dem low, and e no notice. Na only di pain of im own body e dey feel, and na only imsef e dey cry for."
