Genesis 34

34 ¹Dinah, di pikin wey Leah born give Jacob, comot go see di young women of di land. ²Shechem pikin of Hamor di Hivite man, prince of di land, see am, grab am, sleep with am, and disgrace am. ³Im heart hold Dinah tight, Jacob pikin—e love di girl and e talk soft-soft to her heart. ⁴So Shechem tell im papa Hamor say, “Go find dis girl for me make she be my wife.”

⁵Jacob hear say Shechem don make im pikin Dinah unclean, but im sons dey with im animal for di field, so Jacob no talk anything until dem come. ⁶Den Hamor, Shechem im papa, comot go meet Jacob to talk with am. ⁷Jacob im sons come in from di field. When dem hear, di men vex well-well and dem belle dey burn—because Shechem don do shameful thing for Israel, sleep with Jacob pikin, thing wey suppose no happen. ⁸Hamor talk with dem say, “My son Shechem im heart dey pull towards una daughter. Abeg give her to am make she be im wife. ⁹Make we marry each other—give una daughters to us, and take our daughters for una self. ¹⁰Stay with us; di land dey open for una—settle, do trade, and get property inside am.”

¹¹Shechem tell her papa and her brothers say, “Make I find favour for una eye; whatever una talk to me, I go give. ¹²Ask me any bride-price and gift, no matter how big—I go pay am. Just give me di girl make she be my wife.”

¹³Jacob im sons answer Shechem and im papa Hamor with lie-lie mind, because Shechem don defile dem sister Dinah. ¹⁴Dem tell dem say, “We no fit do dis thing—give our sister to man wey no circumcise; dat one go be disgrace for us. ¹⁵Na only dis one we go gree: if una become like us, make dem circumcise every male among una. ¹⁶Den we go give una our daughters and take una own for we self; we go stay with una and become one people. ¹⁷But if una no gree hear and circumcise, we go take our daughter and comot.”

¹⁸Dem word sweet Hamor and im son Shechem. ¹⁹Di young man no waste time, because e like Jacob pikin—na im get di most respect for im papa house. ²⁰Hamor and im son Shechem come to di gate of dem city and talk to di men of dem city say: ²¹“Dis men dey peace with us. Make dem stay for di land and do trade inside am—di land wide enough for dem. We go take dem daughters as wives and give dem our own. ²²Na only on dis condition di men go gree stay with us as one people: say make dem circumcise every male among us, as dem be circumcised. ²³No be dem animal, dem property, and all dem beast go be our own? Just make we gree with dem, and dem go stay with us.”

²⁴Everybody wey comot through im city gate hear Hamor and im son Shechem, and dem circumcise every male—everybody wey comot through im city gate. ²⁵For di third day, while dem still dey pain, two of Jacob im sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah brothers, each one take im sword, come against di city wey no expect anything, and kill every male. ²⁶Dem kill Hamor and im son Shechem with sword, carry Dinah comot from Shechem house, and go. ²⁷Jacob im sons come meet di dead bodies and loot di city, because di men for there don defile dem sister. ²⁸Dem take dem sheep, dem cattle, dem donkey, and everything wey dey for di city and for di field. ²⁹Dem carry all dem wealth, all dem pikin, and dem wives as captive, dey loot everything wey dey inside di houses. ³⁰Jacob tell Simeon and Levi say, “Una don bring trouble come my head—una don make me stink for di people wey dey live here, di Canaanite and Perizzite people. My men no plenty; if dem gather together against me, dem go attack, and dem go finish me, me and my whole house.”
