1 Samuel 25

25 ¹Samuel die, and all Israel gather to cry for am and dem bury am for im house for Ramah. Then David comot go down to di wilderness of Paran.

²One man for Maon get property for Carmel. Di man rich well well: sheep 3,000 and goat 1,000. E dey shave di wool for im sheep for Carmel. ³Di man name na Nabal, and im wife name na Abigail. She get sense and she fine, but di man hard and wicked for how e dey do things—e be Calebite. ⁴While David dey for di wilderness, e hear say Nabal dey shave di wool for im sheep. ⁵David send ten young men, e tell dem, "Go up go Carmel. Go find Nabal and greet am for my name. ⁶Tell am say: 'Make you live long. Peace to you, peace to your house, and peace to everything wey you get.' ⁷I hear say you get people wey dey shave sheep wool. Your shepherds bin dey with us; we no do dem anything bad, and nothing miss for dem di whole time wey dem dey for Carmel. ⁸Ask your young men and dem go tell you. So make my young men find favour for your eye, because we come on feast day. Abeg give whatever you fit spare to your servants and to your son David."

⁹David young men come and talk all dis words to Nabal for David name, then dem wait.

¹⁰Nabal answer David servants, "Who be David? Who be dis son of Jesse? Plenty servants dey run comot from dem masters dis days. ¹¹Why I go take my bread, my water, and di meat wey I kill for my sheep-shavers, and give am to men wey I no even know where dem come from?"

¹²So David young men turn go back and report every word to am when dem reach.

¹³David tell im men, "Every one of una, strap una sword!" So each one strap im sword, David sef too. Like 400 go up follow David; 200 stay with di load.

¹⁴One of di young men tell Abigail, Nabal wife, "David send messengers from di wilderness to greet our master, and e just insult dem well well. ¹⁵Dis men bin dey very good to us. Dem never do us anything bad, and nothing miss for us di whole time wey we dey waka for di field with dem. ¹⁶Dem be like wall around us night and day, di whole time wey we dey with dem dey mind sheep. ¹⁷So now know and see wetin you go do, because wahala don set against our master and im whole house. E be worthless man so tey nobody fit talk to am."

¹⁸Abigail quick take 200 loaf of bread, two skin of wine, five sheep wey dem don prepare, like thirty-five quart of roasted grain, one hundred bunch of raisin, and 200 fig cake, and load dem for donkey. ¹⁹She tell her servants, "Go ahead of me; I go follow come." But she no tell her husband Nabal anything. ²⁰As she dey ride her donkey down for one mountain path wey dem no fit see, she meet David and im men dey come down toward her.

²¹Now David bin dey talk, "For nothing I guard everything wey dis man get for di wilderness—nothing of im own miss—and e pay me back evil for di good wey I do. ²²Make our Papa do dis to David enemies, and even more, if by morning I leave even one male alive out of everything wey be im own."

²³As Abigail see David, she quick comot for her donkey and fall face down for di ground for im front, dey bow. ²⁴She fall for im feet and say, "My lord, make di blame be my own alone. Abeg make your servant talk to you; hear di words of your servant. ²⁵Abeg, my lord, no mind dis worthless man Nabal, because e be just like im name—Nabal mean Fool, and foolishness dey with am. Me, your servant, no see di young men wey my lord send. ²⁶Now, my lord, as sure as our Papa dey live and you dey live: since our Papa keep you from shedding blood and from taking revenge with your own hand, make your enemies and everybody wey wan harm my lord become like Nabal. ²⁷Now make dis gift wey your servant bring to my lord be given to di young men wey dey follow my lord. ²⁸Forgive di offence of your servant, because our Papa go surely make my lord family a dynasty wey go last, because my lord dey fight our Papa battles. Make dem no find any wrongdoing for you as long as you dey live. ²⁹If somebody rise to pursue you and seek your life, my lord life go dey tie tight for di bundle of di living with your Papa; but di life of your enemies e go throw comot like from di pocket of sling. ³⁰When our Papa don do for my lord all di good wey e promise about you, and don make you ruler over Israel, ³¹my lord no go get any sorrow or guilt for shedding blood without cause or for taking im own revenge. And when our Papa do good to my lord, remember your servant."

³²David talk to Abigail, "Blessing to our Papa, di God of Israel, wey send you today to come meet me. ³³Blessing to your good sense, and blessing to you, wey keep me today from shedding blood and from taking revenge with my own hand. ³⁴As sure as our Papa, di God of Israel, dey live, wey keep me from harming you—if you no bin hurry come meet me, not even one male for Nabal side for don survive till morning."

³⁵David collect from her hand wetin she bring, and e tell her, "Go home in peace. See, I don hear your voice and I grant wetin you ask."

³⁶When Abigail reach Nabal, e dey hold feast for im house wey fit be for king. Im heart merry and e don drunk well well, so she no tell am anything until morning. ³⁷For morning, when di wine comot for Nabal body, im wife tell am everything. Im heart die inside am, and e come be like stone. ³⁸Like ten days after, our Papa strike Nabal, and e die.

³⁹When David hear say Nabal don die, e say, "Blessing to our Papa, wey plead my case against di insult wey I suffer from Nabal, and wey keep im servant from evil. Our Papa don bring Nabal evil back on im own head." Then David send word to ask Abigail to become im wife.

⁴⁰David servants come to Abigail for Carmel and tell her, "David send us to take you as im wife."

⁴¹She stand up, bow face down to di ground, and say, "See your servant, ready to serve and to wash di feet of my lord servants." ⁴²Abigail quick get ready, climb her donkey, and with her five attendants she follow David messengers and become im wife. ⁴³David bin don marry Ahinoam of Jezreel too, so di two of dem be im wives. ⁴⁴Saul bin don give im daughter Michal, David wife, to Paltiel son of Laish, wey come from Gallim.
