Romans 5

5 ¹So, since we are made right by faith, we have peace with our Father through our Lord Jesus Christ. ²Through whom we've gained access by faith into this grace we stand in, and we rejoice in hope of our Father's glory. ³Not only that, but we also boast in our suffering, since suffering produces endurance, ⁴and endurance produces character, and character produces hope. ⁵Hope doesn't put us to shame, because our Father's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit given to us.

⁶While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the wicked. ⁷Rarely would anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might even dare to die. ⁸But our Father shows his own love for us: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ^a a v8 Our Father proves his love at the cross — by giving his Son for us while we were still far from him.

⁹Much more then, now made right by his blood, we will be saved through him from the wrath. ¹⁰If, as enemies, we were reconciled to our Father through the death of his Son, how much more, now reconciled, will his life save us? ¹¹Not only that—we also rejoice in our Father through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Death Through Adam, Life Through Christ

¹²So, as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, death spread to everyone, since all sinned. ¹³Before the law, sin was already in the world; but sin isn't counted where there's no law. ¹⁴Still, death ruled from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sin didn't match Adam's wrongdoing—Adam foreshadows the one to come.

¹⁵But the gift is not like the sin: if many died through one man's sin, much more has our Father's grace and the gift by the grace of the one man Jesus Christ overflowed to many. ¹⁶And the gift is not like the result of that one man's sin: judgment from one sin brought condemnation, but the gift from many sins brought justification. ¹⁷For if death reigned through that one man because of one trespass, how much more will those receiving grace's overflow and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

¹⁸So then, as one trespass condemned everyone, one righteous act brings everyone justification and life. ¹⁹As one man's disobedience made the many sinners, so one man's obedience will make the many righteous. ²⁰Now the law came in so that the trespass might increase, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, ²¹so that as sin reigned in death, grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
