My Papa, My Strength

For di director of music. Na David own, di servant of our Papa, wey sing dis words to our Papa for di day wey He rescue am from all im enemies and from di hand of Saul.

After e escape from Saul, David tell the whole story. E dey drown inside the rope of death, and im cry bring im Papa come down from sky on top wind, inside smoke and hail, to pull am comot from deep water and set am for high place.

Chapter 18.

I love You, my Papa, my strength. My Papa na my rock and my strong place and di One wey dey save me; my Papa, my rock, na for inside Am I dey hide, my shield, and di strength wey dey save me, my strong tower. I call my Papa, wey deserve make dem praise Am, and dem save me from my enemies.

Di ropes of death surround me; di flood of destruction cover me finish. Di ropes of di grave tie me; di trap of death stand for my front. For inside my trouble I call my Papa; na to my Papa I cry for help. From im temple He hear my voice, and my cry reach im ears.

Den di earth shake and dey waka waka; di foundation of di mountains shake and dey tremble, Smoke comot from im nose, and fire wey dey chop everything from im mouth; coals wey dey burn red comot from Am. He bend di heavens come down low; thick darkness dey under im feet. He ride for one cherub and fly; He glide on di wings of di wind. He make darkness im covering, im tent wey surround Am—dark water and thick clouds of di sky. Out of di brightness wey dey im front im clouds burst comot, with hailstone and coals of fire. My Papa also thunder for di heavens, and di Most High raise im voice, with hailstones and coals of fire. He send out im arrows and scatter dem; He throw lightning and make dem run comot. Den di channels of di sea show, and di foundation of di world open for di time wey you rebuke, my Papa, for di blast of di breath of your nose.

He reach down from up high come hold me; he pull me comot from di big-big water. He rescue me from my powerful enemy, from di people wey hate me, because dem too strong for me. Dem stand for my front for di day of my disaster, but my Papa na my support. He bring me comot go wide open place; He rescue me, because I sweet Am for eye.

My Papa treat me according to my correct-and-holy way; according to how my hands clean He reward me. Because I don keep di ways of my Papa, and I no turn back from my Papa to do wickedness. Because all im rules dey my front, and I no put im laws for side. I no get blame for im front, and I keep myself from doing wrong. So my Papa don reward me according to my correct-and-holy way, according to how my hands clean for im sight.

For di person wey faithful You show Yourself faithful; for di person wey no get blame You show Yourself blameless; for di person wey pure You show Yourself pure, but for di person wey crooked You show Yourself sharp pass am. Because You dey save people wey humble deirself, Because na You dey light my lamp; my Papa dey light my darkness. Because with You I fit rush enter one army, and with my Papa I fit jump cross wall.

As for my Papa—im way perfect; di word of my Papa dey prove true; na shield e be for everybody wey run hide inside am. Because who be our Papa if no be my Papa? And who be rock if no be our Papa? Na my Papa dey arm me with strength and e dey make my way blameless. He make my feet like di feet of deer and e set me for safe place for di high places. He train my hands for battle, so dat my arms fit bend bow of bronze. You don give me di shield of Your salvation; your right hand dey support me, and your gentleness don make me great. You make wide place for my steps under me, and my feet no dey slip.

I chase my enemies and catch dem; I no turn back until dem finish. I knock dem down so dat dem no fit rise; dem fall under my feet. You arm me with strength for di battle; you make di people wey rise against me fall under my feet. You make my enemies turn deir back give me, and dem wey hate me I destroy. Dem cry for help, but nobody dey to save; dem cry to my Papa, but e no answer dem. I beat dem fine fine like dust wey wind dey carry; I pour dem out like di mud for street. You deliver me from di quarrel of di people; you make me di head of di nations; people wey I no know before dey serve me now. Once dem hear about me, dem obey me; foreigners dey come bow for me with fear. Foreigners lose heart and dem come out from dia strong place dey shake.

My Papa dey live! Blessing be to my rock, and make dem lift up di Papa wey dey save me, di Papa wey dey give me justice and dey put people under me, wey rescue me from my enemies. Yes, you lift me up pass di people wey rise against me; you deliver me from di violent man. Because of dis I go praise You, my Papa, among di nations, and I go sing praise to your name.

He dey give big victory to im king, and e dey show covenant love to di one wey e anoint, to David and im children forever.
