Jeremiah 25

Book

Di Papa Warn About Seventy Years wey Dem Go Comot for Land

Twenty-three years of talking, and nobody listen. Now our Papa call Nebuchadnezzar im servant and fix seventy years for di exile — then judgment go land for Babylon too. Jeremiah carry cup of vex go from nation to nation, and nobody fit refuse to drink.

Chapter 25.

Di word wey come to Jeremiah about all di people of Judah, for di fourth year of Jehoiakim, di pikin of Josiah, king of Judah—wey be di first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. Jeremiah di prophet talk dis one give all di people of Judah and everybody wey dey live for Jerusalem: From di thirteenth year of Josiah, di pikin of Amon, king of Judah, reach today—dis twenty-three years—our Papa im word don dey come to me; I talk am again and again, but una no gree listen. And our Papa send all im servants di prophets give una again and again, but una no gree listen or pay attention.

Dem talk say, “Make each of una turn now comot from una bad way and una bad deeds, so make una fit live for di land wey our Papa give una and una fathers, from before-before reach forever. No follow other gods to serve dem and bow give dem, and no make me vex with di work of una hand, and I no go harm una.”

But una no listen to me, na so our Papa talk, so una provoke me make I vex with di work of una hand, to una own harm.

Na im make dis one na wetin di Papa wey be Oga of di armies of heaven talk: Because say una no gree hear my words, I dey call all di clans wey dey for north, na so our Papa talk, together with Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, my servant. I go bring dem come fight dis land, di people wey dey inside, and every nation wey dey surround am, I go wipe dem comot, I go make dem turn something wey go scatter person mind, something wey people go dey hiss for, ruins wey go tey forever. I go stop for their midst di sound of joy and di sound of gladness, di voice of di new husband and di voice of di new wife, di sound of grinding stone and di light of di lamp. Dis whole land go turn ruin and empty place, and dis nations go serve di king of Babylon for seventy years.”

But wen di seventy years don finish, I go punish di king of Babylon, dat nation, and di land of di Chaldeans for their guilt—na so our Papa talk—I go make am turn empty place wey go tey forever. I go bring for dat land everything wey I talk against am, everything wey dem write for dis book, wey Jeremiah prophesy against all di nations. Plenty nations and big kings go make dem too slave; I go pay dem back for their deeds, for di work of their hand.

Di Cup of di Papa im Vex

Na dis one our Papa of Israel talk give me: Take dis cup of wine wey full of vex from my hand and make all di nations wey I go send you drink am. a a v15 Di cup of vex wey di nations must drink na di same cup wey Jesus take for our place—“Papa, if e good for your eye, take dis cup comot from me” (Luke 22:42)—so dat people wey trust am no go ever need to drink am. Dem go drink, dem go dey waka anyhow, and dem go craze because of di sword wey I dey send come their midst.

So I take di cup from our Papa im hand and I make all di nations wey e send me to drink am. Jerusalem, di cities of Judah, im kings and im officials—I make dem turn ruin, something wey go scatter person mind, something wey people go dey laugh, and curse, as dem be today. Pharaoh king of Egypt, im servants, im officials, and all im people, and all di mix-mix people; every king of Uz; every king of Philistia—Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and di ones wey remain for Ashdod; Edom, Moab, and di people of Ammon; all di kings of Tyre, all di kings of Sidon, and di kings of di coast-land wey dey for di other side of di sea; Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all di people wey dey cut di hair for di side of their head; b b v23 To cut di hair for di side of di head na custom wey dem take dey know some Arabian desert tribes. all di kings of Arabia and di mix-mix people wey dey live for di desert; all di kings of Zimri, all di kings of Elam, and all di kings of Media; all di kings wey dey for north, di ones wey dey near and di ones wey dey far, one after di other, and all di kingdoms of di world wey dey for di face of di ground—and afta dem, di king of Sheshach go drink too. c c v26 Sheshach na hidden code-name for Babylon, wey dem take turn di letters back to back—na way wey dem take call di judgment wey dey come for Babylon without say am plain.

Talk give dem say: Na dis one di Papa wey be Oga of di armies of heaven, di Papa of Israel, talk: Drink, get drunk, vomit, fall, and no rise again, because of di sword wey I dey send come una midst. If dem refuse to collect di cup from your hand to drink, tell dem say, “Di Papa wey be Oga of di armies of heaven talk: Una must drink! See, I dey start to bring wahala for di city wey carry my name. So una go free comot without any punishment? Una no go free at all. Because I dey call sword come against everybody wey dey for earth, na so di Papa wey be Oga of di armies of heaven talk.”

“Prophesy all dis words against dem and tell dem say: “Our Papa dey roar from up high, e dey give im voice from im holy home; e dey roar well well against im flock, e dey shout like people wey dey press grape, against everybody wey dey live for earth.” Di roar go reach di ends of di earth, because our Papa dey bring case against di nations; e dey enter judgment with all flesh, and di wicked people e go hand over to di sword, na so our Papa talk.”

Na dis one di Papa wey be Oga of di armies of heaven talk: See, wahala dey spread from one nation reach another nation—big storm dey rise up from di ends of di earth.

For dat day, di people wey our Papa go kill go lie down from one end of di earth reach di other end—nobody go cry for dem, nobody go gather dem, nobody go bury dem, dem go just dey like dung for ground.

Cry well well, una shepherds, and shout; roll for dust, una oga of di flock! Because di days wey dem go slaughter una don reach; una go fall and una go scatter like precious pot. Place to hide no go dey for di shepherds, way to escape no go dey for di oga of di flock. Listen—na di cry of di shepherds, di wailing of di oga of di flock! Because our Papa dey destroy di place wey their animals dey chop grass, and di peaceful grass-field don quiet because of di vex wey dey burn for our Papa im belle. Like lion, e don comot from im hole, because their land don turn empty place because of di sword of di person wey dey oppress and because of di vex wey dey burn for our Papa.
