Book

Hold Wisdom Tight

One papa wey dey look from im window tell wetin e see. One young man wey no get sense dey waka go one particular house for evening time, and one woman wey don plan her plan and know say her husband no dey house come meet am. E follow her like cow wey dem dey carry go slaughter.

Chapter 7.

My pikin, keep my words, and store my commandments for inside you.

Keep my commandments make you live; guard my teaching like di apple of your eye. Tie dem for your fingers; write dem for di tablet of your heart.

Talk give wisdom say, "You be my sister," and call understanding your best friend, make e keep you from di woman wey dem forbid, from di stranger wey get smooth mouth.

Because for di window of my house I look down through my lattice, and I see among di people wey no sabi anything, I notice among di young men, one boy wey no get sense, e dey pass di street near her corner, e dey take di road go her house, for di time wey sun dey go down, as di day dey fade, for di darkness of night and thick darkness.

And see, one woman come meet am, wey dress like ashawo, wey get cunny for her heart. She dey make noise and she stubborn; her leg no fit stay for house. Now for di street, now for di open place, she dey wait for every corner. She grab am and kiss am, and with face wey no get shame she talk give am say:

"I get peace offerings wey I suppose bring; today I don pay my vows. a a v14 Dem dey share peace offering like feast — she mean say she get food ready and reason to celebrate for house. So I come out to meet you, to look for you well well, and I don find you. I don spread my bed with fine cloth, with colour linen from Egypt. I don rub my bed with sweet-smelling myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. Come, make we drink deep of love reach morning; make we lose ourself for love. Because my husband no dey house; e don go far journey. E carry bag of money go with am and e no go come house until di moon go full."

With all her sweet-mouth words she turn am; with her smooth lips she pull am come. Sharp-sharp e follow her, like cow wey dey go slaughter, like deer wey dey step enter trap, until arrow pierce im liver; like bird wey dey rush enter trap, e no know say e go cost am im life.

So now, my pikin dem, listen to me, and pay attention to wetin I talk. No make your heart turn go her ways; no waka enter her paths. Because she don bring down plenty people; di people wey she don kill na plenty crowd. Her house na di road to di grave, wey dey go down to di rooms of death.
