1 Samuel 9

9 ¹Person dey for Benjamin family wey im name na Kish, pikin of Abiel, pikin of Zeror, pikin of Becorath, pikin of Aphiah, one Benjamite; e be man wey get money and wey people dey respect. ²E get one pikin wey im name na Saul, fine young man—no Israelite fine pass am; from im shoulder go up e tall pass everybody.

³Di donkey wey belong Kish, Saul im papa, waka comot lost, so Kish tell im pikin Saul say, "Carry one of di servant follow you go find di donkey dem." ⁴E cross di hill country of Ephraim and di land of Shalishah, but dem no see dem. Dem waka pass di land of Shaalim, but di donkey no dey there. E cross di land of Benjamin, but still dem no see dem.

⁵Wen dem reach di land of Zuph, Saul tell di servant wey dey with am say, "Come make we turn back, if not my papa go stop to worry about di donkey and go begin worry about us."

⁶But di servant talk say, "See, dis town get one man of our Papa, wey people dey honour well-well; everything wey e talk sure dey happen true-true. Make we go there now; e fit tell us which way we go take."

⁷Saul tell im servant say, "But if we go, wetin we go carry give di man? Di bread wey dey inside our bag don finish, and we no get gift for di man of our Papa. Wetin we get?"

⁸Di servant answer Saul again say, "See, I get small silver coin. I go give am to di man of our Papa make e tell us our way." ⁹(Before-before for Israel, if person wan go ask our Papa question, e go talk say, "Make we go meet di seer," because di prophet wey we dey call today, na seer dem dey call am dat time.).

¹⁰"Good," Saul answer. "Make we go." So dem go di town wey di man of our Papa dey. ¹¹As dem dey climb di hill go di town, dem meet young women wey dey comot come fetch water, and dem ask say, "Di seer dey here?"

¹²"E dey," dem talk. "Just for your front. Make you hurry, e come town today because di people get sacrifice for di high place. ¹³As you enter di town so, you go see am before e go up to di high place go chop. Di people no go chop until e come, because na im go bless di sacrifice; na after dat di guest dem go chop. Go up now—you go see am sharp-sharp."

¹⁴Dem go up to di town. As dem dey enter, Samuel come dey come meet dem, dey go up to di high place.

¹⁵Now di day before Saul come, our Papa don show Samuel dis thing say:

¹⁶"Around dis time tomorrow, I go send one man from di land of Benjamin come meet you. Anoint am leader over my people Israel; e go save my people from di hand of di Philistine dem, because I don see my people, and dem cry don reach me."

¹⁷Wen Samuel see Saul, our Papa tell am say, "Na dis man be di one wey I talk about; na dis one go rule my people."

¹⁸Saul come near Samuel for di gate and talk say, "Abeg tell me where di seer im house dey."

¹⁹"Na me be di seer," Samuel answer. "Go up my front to di high place. Today you go chop with me; for morning I go send you go and tell you everything wey dey your heart. ²⁰Di donkey wey you lost three days ago, dem don find dem, so no worry about dem. And who own all di thing wey Israel dey treasure, if no be you and all your papa im house?"

²¹Saul answer say, "No be Benjamite I be, from di smallest tribe of Israel, and my clan na di least among di clan dem of Benjamin? Why you dey talk dis thing to me?"

²²Then Samuel carry Saul and im servant enter di hall, e give dem di head place among di guest wey dem invite—like thirty of dem. ²³Samuel tell di cook say, "Bring di portion wey I give you, di one wey I talk say make you keep aside." ²⁴Di cook lift di thigh with wetin dey on top am, and e put am for Saul im front. Samuel talk say, "See wetin dem keep for you. Chop, because dem reserve am for you for dis occasion, since di time wey I invite dis guest dem." So Saul chop with Samuel dat day.

²⁵Dem come down from di high place enter town, and Samuel talk with Saul for di roof. ²⁶Dem wake up early, and as day dey break, Samuel call Saul for di roof say, "Get up, make I send you go." Saul get up, and di two of dem, im and Samuel, comot go di street together. ²⁷As dem dey go down to di edge of di town, Samuel tell Saul say, "Tell di servant make e go your front"—and e go—"but you wait small, so I fit tell you di word of our Papa."
