Acts 5

5 ¹Now, one man wey dem dey call Ananias, together with im wife Sapphira, sell one piece of land. ²E keep part of di money for imsef, and im wife sabi about am, and e bring only some part, put am for di apostles dem feet. ³But Peter say, “Ananias, why Satan don fill your heart make you lie to the Holy Spirit, come keep part of di money wey dem pay for di land? ⁴Before you sell am, no be your own e be? After you sell am, no be your money wey you fit do wetin you like with am? Why you plan dis kind thing for your heart? No be person you lie to, na our Papa.” ^a a v4 When Peter talk say to lie to the Holy Spirit na to lie to our Papa, e dey show say di Spirit na God fully — no be just power, but na Person wey be God.

⁵As Ananias hear dis words, e fall down, die; and big fear catch everybody wey hear am. ⁶Den di young men dem stand up, wrap im body, carry am comot, go bury am. ⁷About three hours later, im wife waka come inside, and she no know wetin happen. ⁸Peter ask am, “Tell me, na dis much money una sell di land?” She say, “Yes, na dat much.”

⁹Den Peter say to am, “Why una two gree together to test di Spirit of our Papa? Look, di feet of di people wey bury your husband dey for door, and dem go carry you comot too.”

¹⁰Sharp sharp, she fall for im feet, die. Di young men dem come inside, meet am don die, carry am comot, go bury am for im husband side. ¹¹And big fear come catch di whole church and everybody wey hear about dis things.

Signs and Wonders Through di Apostles Dem

¹²Plenty signs and wonders happen among di people through di apostles dem hand. Dem all gather together for Solomon Portico. ¹³Nobody for di rest get mind to join dem, but di people dey respect dem well well. ¹⁴And plenty more believers join to di Oga — crowd of men and women, ¹⁵so tay dem even carry di sick people comot go for street, put dem for bed and mat, dey hope say at least Peter shadow go fall on some of dem as e dey pass. ¹⁶Crowd of people come also from di towns wey dey around Jerusalem, dey bring di sick people and dem wey unclean spirit dey trouble, and all of dem receive healing.

Dem Arrest Dem, Free Dem, and Dem Come Back

¹⁷Di high priest stand up, and everybody wey dey with am, wey be di Sadducee group, and jealousy full dem body. ¹⁸Dem arrest di apostles dem, put dem for di public prison. ¹⁹But for night, one angel of our Papa open di prison doors, lead dem comot, come say, ²⁰“Go, stand for di temple and talk to di people all di words of dis Life.”

²¹As dem hear dis, dem enter di temple for early morning come start to teach. When di high priest and di people wey dey with am reach, dem call di council together — di full gathering of di elders of Israel — and dem send message go di jail make dem bring di apostles. ²²But when di guards reach, dem no see anybody there; dem come back come report say, ²³“We meet di prison lock tight tight, guards dey stand for di doors, but when we open am, we no see anybody inside.”

²⁴As di captain of di temple guard and di chief priests dem hear dis, e confuse dem, dem dey wonder wetin dis thing go turn to. ²⁵Somebody come report say, “Look, di men wey una put for prison dey stand for di temple, dey teach di people!” ²⁶Den di captain and im officers dem go bring dem, but dem no use force, because dem dey fear say di people go stone dem. ²⁷When dem don bring dem, dem make dem stand in front of di council. And di high priest question dem, ²⁸e say, “We warn una strong strong make una no teach for dis name, but see, una don fill Jerusalem with una teaching, and una wan bring dis man blood come on top us.”

²⁹But Peter and di apostles dem answer say, “E better make we obey our Papa pass person. ³⁰Di God of our papa-papa dem raise Jesus, wey una kill by hanging am for tree. ³¹Our Papa lift am up go im own right hand as Ruler and Savior, to give Israel repentance and forgiveness of sin. ³²We be witness of dis things, and the Holy Spirit too, wey our Papa give to dem wey dey obey am.”

³³When dem hear dis, vex full dem body, and dem wan kill di apostles. ³⁴But one Pharisee wey dem dey call Gamaliel, wey be teacher of di law wey all di people dey respect, stand up for di council come order say make dem carry di men go outside small. ³⁵E tell dem say, “Una people of Israel, make una think well well about wetin una wan do to dis men. ³⁶Before now, Theudas come out, dey talk say e be somebody; about 400 men follow am. Dem kill am, and all im followers dem scatter, and di thing come turn to nothing. ³⁷After am, Judas di Galilee man rise up for di time wey dem dey count people, come pull plenty people follow am. E too die, and all di people wey follow am scatter. ³⁸So now I dey tell una: comot for dis men matter, leave dem alone. If dis plan or dis work na from man, e go fail. ³⁹But if e na from our Papa, una no go fit stop dem; una fit even find una sef say na our Papa una dey fight.” So im talk convince dem.

⁴⁰As im talk convince dem, dem call di apostles come in, flog dem, order dem say make dem no talk for di name of Jesus, come release dem. ⁴¹So dem comot from di council, dey rejoice say dem count dem worthy to suffer shame for di name. ⁴²Every day, for di temple and from house to house, dem no ever stop to teach and to preach di good news say: Jesus na di Christ.
