Numbers 30

30 ¹ Moses told Israel's tribal heads: This is what our Father commanded. ² When a man vows a vow to our Father, or swears an oath binding himself with a pledge, he must not break his word; he must do all his mouth has spoken.

³ If a woman vows a vow to our Father and binds herself by a pledge while young, living in her father's house, ⁴ When her father hears her vow and pledge binding her, and says nothing to her, all her vows and every pledge binding her stand. ⁵ But if her father forbids her the day he hears, none of her vows or bonds she bound herself with will stand; our Father will forgive her, because her father forbade her.

⁶ If she marries while under her vows, or under a rash promise she has made, ⁷ and her husband hears of it and stays silent to her on the day he hears, her vows stand, and the bonds she bound herself with stand. ⁸ But if her husband forbids her the day he hears, he cancels the vow binding her and the rash promise she made; and our Father will forgive her.

⁹ But a widow's or divorced woman's vow — everything she bound herself to — stands against her.

¹⁰ If she vowed in her husband's house, or bound herself by a pledge under oath, ¹¹ and her husband heard it, said nothing to her, and did not forbid her — so all her vows stand, and every pledge by which she bound herself stands. ¹² But if her husband nullifies them the day he hears, nothing she said — her vows or the pledge binding her — will stand: he has nullified them, and our Father will forgive her. ¹³ Any vow and any binding oath to humble herself, her husband may confirm or nullify it. ¹⁴ But if her husband stays silent to her from day to day, he confirms all her vows or obligations binding her; he confirms them, because he stayed silent to her on the day he heard them. ¹⁵ But if he nullifies them after he has heard them, then he will bear her guilt.

¹⁶ These are the rules our Father commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between a father and his young daughter still in his house.
