Exodus 22

22 ¹"Any person wey tif cow or sheep, come kill am or sell am, e go pay back five cattle for di one cow, and four sheep for di one sheep. ²If dem catch tif wey dey break enter house, come beat am till e die, no blood-guilt dey for am. ³But if sun don rise before dis thing happen, blood-guilt dey for di person. Di tif must pay back; and if e no get anything, dem go sell am to pay for wetin e tif. ⁴If dem find di animal wey e tif still dey alive for im hand—cow, donkey, or sheep—e must pay back double.

⁵"If person let im animal comot make e go chop for another man field or vineyard, e go pay back with di best part of im own field and di best part of im own vineyard.

⁶"If fire start come catch thorn-bush, come burn grain wey dem gather, or grain wey still dey stand, or di field, di person wey start di fire must pay back everything.

⁷"If person give im neighbour silver or property make e keep am, come dem tif am from di man house, di tif—if dem catch am—go pay back double. ⁸If dem no find di tif, di owner of di house must come stand before our Papa make dem see whether na im put hand for im neighbour property. ⁹For any matter wey dem dey argue about—cow, donkey, sheep, cloth, or anything wey lost wey person talk say na im own—di two of dem must come stand before our Papa; and whoever our Papa judge say e do wrong go pay back double give im neighbour.

¹⁰"If person give im neighbour donkey, cow, sheep, or any animal make e watch am, come e die, or e get injury, or dem carry am comot without anybody see, ¹¹swear-swear before me go settle di matter between di two of dem: di person wey dey keep am no put hand for im neighbour property. Di owner go accept am; and no pay-back dey. ¹²But if na true say dem tif di animal from am, e must pay back give di owner. ¹³If wild animal tear am, e must bring am come show as proof; e no go pay anything for di animal wey wild beast tear.

¹⁴"If person borrow animal from im neighbour come e get injury or e die while di owner no dey there, e must pay back everything. ¹⁵But if di owner dey with am, e no go pay anything; and if na animal wey dem hire, di money wey dem pay to hire am go cover di loss.
