Acts 23

23 ¹Paul look di council well well: "My brothers, I don live my life before our Papa with clean conscience reach today."

³Paul tell am, "Our Papa go slap you, you wall wey dem paint white cover di dirty! You sidon dey judge me by di law, but you dey break di law wen you order dem to slap me?"

⁴Di people wey stand near am talk, "You dey insult our Papa im high priest?"

⁵Paul talk, "My brothers, I no know sey na high priest; because Scripture talk sey, 'No talk bad about di oga wey dey rule your people.'"

⁶Paul, wey sabi sey some na Sadducee, some na Pharisee, shout for inside di council, "My brothers, I be Pharisee, pikin of Pharisee. Na because of di hope and di rising of dead people dem dey judge me!"

⁷Wen e talk dis one, argument start between di Pharisee and di Sadducee, and di gathering divide. ⁸Because di Sadducee talk sey no resurrection dey, and no angel or spirit dey, but di Pharisee accept all of dem. ⁹Big noise burst out. Some scribe from di Pharisee side stand up dey argue sharp sharp: "We no see anytin bad for dis man. Wetin if na spirit or angel talk to am?" ¹⁰As di argument dey turn to fight, di commander fear sey dem go tear Paul into pieces, so e order di soldiers make dem go down, grab am from among dem, and carry am enter di barracks.

¹¹Di next night our Lord Jesus stand near am and talk, "Take heart! Just as you don testify about me for Jerusalem, so you must testify for Rome too."

Dem Plan to Kill Paul

¹²Wen day break, di Jews plan togeda and swear sey dem no go chop or drink until dem kill Paul. ¹³Na more than forty people join dis plan. ¹⁴Dem go meet di chief priests and di elders and talk, "We don swear big oath sey we no go taste anytin until we kill Paul. ¹⁵So now, make you and di council beg di commander make e bring am down come meet una, as if una wan check im case more well. We don ready to kill am before e reach."

¹⁶But Paul sister im pikin hear about di ambush, so e go enter di barracks and tell Paul. ¹⁷Paul call one centurion and talk, "Carry dis young man go meet di commander—e get sometin to report."

¹⁸So e carry am go meet di commander and talk, "Paul di prisoner call me and beg me make I bring dis young man come meet you; e get sometin to tell you."

¹⁹Di commander hold im hand, carry am go one side quiet quiet, and ask, "Wetin you get to tell me?"

²⁰E talk, "Di Jews don gree to beg you make you bring Paul down go di council tomorrow, dey pretend sey dem wan ask about am more well. ²¹No listen to dem—more than forty of dem men dey wait for ambush for am. Dem don swear oath sey dem no go chop or drink until dem kill am, and now dem don ready, dey wait for you to gree."

²²Di commander send di young man comot, and warn am, "No tell anybody sey you report dis one to me."

Our Papa Protect Im Witness

²³Den e call two centurion: "Ready 200 soldiers for Caesarea, and seventy men wey dey ride horse, and 200 men wey get spear, by nine dis night." ²⁴E tell dem make dem provide horse for Paul, to carry am safe go meet Governor Felix. ²⁵And e write letter wey talk like dis:

²⁶"Claudius Lysias, to im Excellency Governor Felix: Greetings.

²⁷Di Jews grab dis man and dem wan kill am wen I come with my soldiers and rescue am, because I don learn sey e be Roman citizen. ²⁸As I wan sabi di charge wey dem dey bring against am, I carry am down go dem council. ²⁹I find out sey dem accuse am over question about dem law, but no charge dey wey deserve death or prison. ³⁰Wen dem tell me about di plan against di man, I send am come you sharp sharp, and I order di people wey dey accuse am make dem talk dem case against am before you."

³¹So di soldiers, dey follow dem order, take Paul and carry am for night go Antipatris. ³²Di next day dem allow di men wey dey ride horse to go on with am while di rest return go di barracks. ³³Di men wey dey ride horse reach Caesarea, deliver di letter give di governor, and hand Paul over to am. ³⁴Afta e read am, di governor ask which province e come from, and e learn sey e come from Cilicia, ³⁵"I go hear you," e talk, "wen di people wey dey accuse you reach." E order make dem keep am under guard for inside Herod im headquarters.
