Deuteronomy 3

3 ¹ We turned and took the road to Bashan, and Og king of Bashan, with all his people, came out to fight us at Edrei.

² And our Father told me, "Don't fear him, for I've given him, all his people, and his land to you; do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon."

³ So our Father also gave us Og king of Bashan and all his people, and we struck them down, leaving no survivor. ⁴ At that time we captured all his cities—all sixty, none untaken—the whole region of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan. ⁵ All these were cities fortified with high walls and barred gates, besides a great many unwalled villages. ⁶ We devoted them to destruction, as with Sihon king of Heshbon—every city, its men, women, and children. ⁷ But all the livestock and the plunder of the cities we took as spoil for ourselves. ⁸ So we took the land from these two Amorite kings across the Jordan, from the Arnon Valley to Mount Hermon. ⁹ (the Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, while the Amorites call it Senir), ¹⁰ all plateau cities, all Gilead, all Bashan to Salecah and Edrei — Og's kingdom cities in Bashan. ¹¹ (Only Og king of Bashan was left of the Rephaim's remnant. His iron bed—isn't it in Rabbah of the Ammonites—thirteen and a half feet long, six feet wide?) ^a a v11 The Rephaim were a legendary race of giant warriors who once lived in Canaan.

The Land Divided East of Jordan

¹² This land we took then: from Aroer on the Arnon Valley's edge, plus half the Gilead hill country and its cities, I gave to the Reubenites and Gadites. ¹³ I gave the rest of Gilead and all Bashan—Og's kingdom—to the half-tribe of Manasseh: all Argob, all Bashan, called the land of the Rephaim. ¹⁴ Jair son of Manasseh took the whole region of Argob to the Geshurite and Maacathite border, and named Bashan after himself, Havvoth-jair, to this day.) ¹⁵ And to Machir I gave Gilead. ¹⁶ To the Reubenites and Gadites I gave from Gilead to the Arnon Valley—its middle the border—to the Jabbok River, the Ammonites' border. ¹⁷ Also the Arabah, the Jordan its border, from Chinnereth to the Sea of the Arabah (the Dead Sea), below Pisgah's slopes, eastward.

¹⁸ At that time I ordered you: Your Father gave you this land to possess; all your fighting men must cross armed ahead of your brothers, the Israelites. ¹⁹ Only your wives, children, and livestock—I know you have much—stay in the cities I gave you, ²⁰ until our Father gives your brothers rest as he has you, and they too take the land your Father is giving them beyond the Jordan. Then each of you returns to the possession I gave you.

²¹ I commanded Joshua then: 'Your own eyes saw all your Father did to these two kings. Your Father will do so to all the kingdoms you're crossing into.'

Do Not Fear — He Fights for You

²² Don't be afraid of them, for your Father himself fights for you."

²³ And I pleaded with our Father at that time, saying, ²⁴ My Sovereign Father, you've begun showing your servant your greatness and strong hand. What god in heaven or earth can do deeds and mighty acts like yours? ²⁵ Please let me cross over and see the good land beyond the Jordan, this good highland, and Lebanon.

²⁶ But our Father was angry with me because of you and would not listen to me; our Father said to me, "Enough! Don't speak to me about this again. ²⁷ Climb Pisgah's summit, raise your eyes west, north, south, and east, and see with your own eyes, for you won't cross this Jordan. ²⁸ But commission Joshua, encourage and strengthen him, for he will cross ahead of this people and give them the land you will see as their inheritance."

²⁹ So we remained in the valley opposite Beth-peor.
