Chapter 5.

Remember, our Papa, wetin don happen to us; look and see how dem shame us. Dem don hand over our inheritance to strangers, our homes to foreigners. We don become orphans, wey no get papa; our mamas be like widows. We dey pay for our own water wey we go drink; even firewood dey cost us money. Di people wey dey chase us dey for our neck; we don tire finish and dem no gree make we rest. We bow give Egypt and Assyria just to get enough bread. Our papa-papa dem sin, and dem no dey again; and na we dey carry their punishment. Slaves dey rule over us; nobody dey wey go free us from their hand. We dey risk our life to get our bread, because of di sword wey dey for wilderness. Our skin dey hot like oven, di burning heat of hunger don scorch am. Dem dey force women for Zion, and virgins for di towns of Judah. Dem hang princes up by their hand; dem no dey respect di elders. Young men dey suffer for di grinding stone; small boys dey stagger under load of wood. Di elders don comot from di city gate, and di young men don leave their music. Di joy for our heart don finish; our dance don turn to mourning. Di crown don fall from our head. Trouble dey for us, because we don sin! Na because of this our heart don weak; na because of these things our eyes don dim. For Mount Zion don lie waste; jackals dey waka up and down for inside am.

You, our Papa, dey sidon for throne forever; your throne dey stand from generation to generation. Why you dey forget us forever, dey leave us for so many days? Bring us back to yourself, our Papa, and we go return; make our days new like as e bin dey before, a a v21 After every cry of ruin, Lamentations take end by reaching for di one thing wey fit heal am — being turned back to di Papa. Di whole book dey lean towards this: come home. unless say you don totally reject us, and you dey vex with us pass measure.
