2 Samuel 5

5 ¹All di tribes of Israel come meet David for Hebron and talk say, “We be your own flesh and blood. ²Before, wen Saul been be our king, na you dey lead Israel comot and bring dem come house. And our Papa tell you say, ‘You go shepherd my people Israel and be ruler over Israel.’” ³All di elders of Israel come meet di king for Hebron, and for there King David make Covenant with dem before our Papa, and dem anoint David as king over Israel.

⁴David been dey thirty years wen e become king, and e reign forty years. ⁵For Hebron e reign over Judah seven years and six months, and for Jerusalem e reign thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

David Conquer Jerusalem

⁶Den di king and im men march go Jerusalem go fight di Jebusites wey dey live there. Dem taunt David say, “You no fit enter here at all; even di blind and di lame fit turn you back”—dem dey think say, “David no fit enter here.” ⁷But still, David capture di stronghold of Zion, wey be di city of David. ⁸Dat day David talk say, “Anybody wey wan strike down Jebusite must reach di water shaft to strike di lame and di blind, wey David soul hate.” Na why dem dey talk say, “Di blind and di lame no go enter di house.” ^a a v8 Di water shaft na vertical tunnel wey connect di city wey dey up to im underground water wey dey down — e fit be way to sneak enter Jerusalem.

⁹David settle for di stronghold and call am di City of David. E build up di area all around, from di Millo dey go inside. ^b b v9 Di Millo na big supporting terrace or earthwork wey be part of di defenses wey Jerusalem already get. ¹⁰And David dey grow bigger and bigger, because our Papa, di God of heaven army, dey with am. ¹¹Hiram di king of Tyre send messengers, cedar logs, carpenters, and stonemasons give David, and dem build house give David.

¹²David know say na our Papa establish am as king over Israel and don lift David kingdom up because of our Papa people Israel.

¹³After e comot from Hebron, David take more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, and dem born more sons and daughters give am. ¹⁴Na dis be di names of di children wey dem born give am for Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, ¹⁵Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, ¹⁶Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet.

Two Time Wey David Win di Philistines

¹⁷Wen di Philistines hear say dem don anoint David as king over Israel, all of dem march go look for am. But David hear am and go down go di stronghold. ¹⁸Now di Philistines don come and spread demself across di Valley of Rephaim.

¹⁹David ask our Papa say, “Make I attack di Philistines? You go hand dem over give me?” And our Papa answer David say, “Go ahead—I go sure sure hand di Philistines over give you.”

²⁰So David go Baal-perazim and defeat dem there. E talk say, “Our Papa don burst through my enemies before me like flood wey dey burst.” So e call dat place Baal-perazim. ^c c v20 Baal-perazim mean “master of breakthroughs” — David name di place because our Papa burst through im enemies there like flood wey break loose. ²¹Di Philistines abandon dem idols there, and David and im men carry dem comot.

²²One more time di Philistines come up and spread demself across di Valley of Rephaim.

²³Wen David ask our Papa, e answer say, “No go straight up. Circle go dem back and attack dem for di opposite side of di balsam trees. ²⁴As soon as you hear marching for di top of di balsam trees, move fast, because na den your Papa go don go out ahead of you to strike down di Philistine camp.”

²⁵So David do exactly as our Papa command am, dey strike down di Philistines from Geba go reach Gezer.
