Luke 17

17 ¹He told his disciples, "Offenses are sure to come, but woe to the one they come through! ²Better for him to have a millstone hung around his neck and be thrown into the sea than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.

³"Watch yourselves. If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. ⁴If he sins against you seven times a day, and seven times returns saying, 'I repent,' forgive him."

⁵The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"

⁶The Lord said, "If you had faith like a mustard seed, you could tell this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. ⁷Which of you with a servant plowing or tending sheep tells him, coming in from the field, 'Come at once, recline at the table'? ⁸Won't he instead say, 'Get my supper ready, dress to serve me while I eat and drink, then you may eat and drink'?

⁹"Does he thank the servant because he did what he was commanded? ¹⁰So you too, having done all you were commanded, say: 'We are unworthy servants; we've only done our duty.'"

The Father Heals Ten Lepers

¹¹On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. ¹²As he entered a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance,

¹³and called out loudly, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!"

¹⁴Seeing them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." As they went, they were made clean.

¹⁵One of them, seeing he was healed, turned back, praising our Father loudly, ¹⁶and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan.

¹⁷Jesus said, "Weren't ten made clean? Where are the nine? ¹⁸Was no one found to return and give glory to our Father except this foreigner?" ¹⁹And he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well."

The Kingdom Is Already Among You

²⁰Asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of our Father would come, he answered them, "The kingdom of our Father does not come with observation, ²¹nor will they say, 'Look, here!' or 'There!' For the kingdom of our Father is among you."

²²He told the disciples, "Days are coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you won't see it. ²³They will say to you, 'Look, there!' or 'Look, here!' Don't go, don't chase after them. ²⁴For as lightning flashes and lights the sky from one edge to the other, so the Son of Man will be in his day. ²⁵But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. ²⁶As Noah's days were, so will the Son of Man's days be. ²⁷They ate, drank, married, and were given in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸It was the same in Lot's days: eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building, ²⁹but the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all, ³⁰so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed. ³¹On that day, whoever is on the roof with goods inside must not go down for them; likewise, whoever is in the field must not turn back. ³²Remember Lot's wife. ³³Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it. ³⁴I tell you, that night two will be in one bed: one will be taken, and the other left. ³⁵There will be two women grinding together; one will be taken and the other left." ^a a v35 The earliest manuscripts do not have a verse 36 here; later copies add: "Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left."

³⁷They asked, "Where, Lord?" He said, "Wherever a corpse lies, the vultures will gather there."
