The Glory of Our Father Departs the Temple
10 1 Then I looked: above the expanse over the cherubim's heads appeared what looked like a sapphire stone, shaped like a throne.
2 And our Father said to the man dressed in linen, "Go among the whirling wheels beneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city." And he went in as I watched.
3 The cherubim stood on the south side of the temple when the man went in, and the cloud filled the inner court. 4 Then our Father's glory rose from the cherub to the temple threshold, and the temple filled with the cloud, and the court filled with the brightness of our Father's glory. 5 The sound of the cherubim's wings was heard as far as the outer court, like the voice of the Almighty speaking.
6 At his command to the man dressed in linen, "Take fire from among the whirling wheels, from among the cherubim," he went in and stood beside a wheel.
7 Then the cherub reached his hand to the fire among the cherubim, took some, and put it into the hands of the man dressed in linen, who took it and went out. 8 The cherubim appeared to have human hands under their wings.
9 I looked, and four wheels stood beside the cherubim, one beside each, gleaming like beryl. 10 All four wheels looked the same, as though a wheel were within a wheel. 11 When they moved, they went in any of their four directions without turning; wherever the front wheel faced, the others followed without turning. 12 Their whole body—backs, hands, wings, and wheels—were full of eyes all around, the wheels of all four. 13 As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing "the whirling ones." 14 Each had four faces: the first a cherub's face, the second a man's, the third a lion's, the fourth an eagle's.
15 The cherubim rose up. These were the living creatures I saw by the Chebar canal. 16 When the cherubim moved, the wheels moved beside them; when they lifted their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels stayed at their side. 17 When they stood, the wheels stood; when they rose, the wheels rose with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in them.
18 Then the glory of our Father moved from above the threshold of the house and stood over the cherubim. 19 As I watched, the cherubim lifted their wings and rose from the earth, going out with the wheels beside them. They stood at the entrance of the east gate of our Father's house, and the glory of the Father of Israel was high above them.
20 These were the living creatures I saw beneath the Father of Israel by the Chebar canal, and I knew they were cherubim. 21 Each had four faces, four wings, and under their wings what looked like human hands. 22 Their faces were like those I saw by the Chebar canal. Each moved straight ahead.
