Rahab Hide di Spies
Two spies hide for the house of one Jericho prostitute, and na Rahab dey talk sense: the whole city don hear wetin our Papa do for the Red Sea and their heart don dey melt already. She trade their life for her family own, and she hang red rope for her window.
2 1Joshua wey be Nun im pikin quietly send two men comot from Shittim make dem go spy: “Go, check di land well-well, especially Jericho.” So dem go, enter di house of one ashewo woman wey dem dey call Rahab, and dem stay for there.
2Dem come tell di king of Jericho say, “Some men from di Israelites enter here tonight to go spy di land.”
3So di king of Jericho send message go Rahab: “Bring out di men wey come meet you and enter your house, because dem come spy di whole land.”
4But di woman don take di two men hide dem, and she talk say, “Yes, di men come meet me, but I no sabi where dem come from. 5For when e don dark, as dem dey wan lock di gate, di men comot. I no sabi where di men go. Chase dem quick-quick, so dat you go catch dem.” 6But she don carry dem go up for di roof and hide dem inside di flax stalks wey she spread for there. 7Di men chase dem for di Jordan road go reach di places wey people dey cross di river, and once di people wey dey chase dem comot, dem lock di gate.
8Before di spies lie down for di night, Rahab come up meet dem for di roof, 9and she tell dem, “I sabi say Oga don give una di land, say fear of una don fall on us, and everybody wey dey live for di land don melt like water because of una. 10We hear how Oga dry up di Red Sea before una when una comot from Egypt, and wetin una do to Sihon and Og, di two Amorite kings for di east side of di Jordan, wey una destroy finish. 11We hear am, our heart melt, no be small, no courage remain for anybody because of una, because Oga una God na God for heaven up and for earth down. 12So now, swear give me by Oga: since I show una kindness, make una too show kindness to my papa im house. Give me sign wey I fit trust, 13say una go spare di life of my papa, my mama, my brothers, my sisters, and everybody wey dey with dem, and una go rescue us from death.”
14“Our life for una own!” di men tell am. “If you no yarn anybody wetin we dey do, then when our Papa give us di land, we go show you kindness and faithfulness.”
15She use rope let dem down through di window, because her house dey inside di city wall—na for inside di wall she dey live. 16She tell dem, “Go di hills, if not di people wey dey chase go meet una. Hide for there three days until dem go back, then una go waka una road.”
17Di men tell am, “We go free from dis oath wey you make us swear, 18except say, when we enter di land, you tie dis red rope for di window wey you let us down through, and you gather your papa, your mama, your brothers, and your papa im whole household enter di house. 19Anybody wey comot from your house door go inside di street—im blood go dey im own head; we no get hand for am. But if hand touch anybody wey dey inside with you, im blood go dey our head. 20But if you yarn anybody wetin we dey do, we free from di oath wey you make us swear.”
21“Make e be as una talk,” she said. She send dem comot; dem go, and she tie di red rope for di window.
22Dem go inside di hills, stay for there three days until di people wey dey chase go back. Di people wey dey chase search di whole road but dem no find anything. 23Di two men turn go back, come down from di hills, cross over, reach Joshua wey be Nun im pikin, and dem tell am everything wey happen to dem. 24Dem tell Joshua, “For true-true, our Papa don give di whole land into our hand; no be small, everybody wey dey live for there don dey melt with fear because of us.”
