1 Samuel 31

31 ¹Di Philistine people fight Israel; di men of Israel run comot from dem, and dem fall die for Mount Gilboa. ²Di Philistine people catch up with Saul and im sons, and di Philistine people kill Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, wey be Saul im sons. ³Di battle press Saul well well. Di people wey dey shoot arrow see am, and dem wound am bad bad. ⁴Saul tell di young man wey dey carry im war-things, “Draw your sword and run am enter my body, if not dis men wey no circumcise go come, run am enter my body, and torment me.” But di young man wey dey carry im war-things no gree—fear catch am well well. So Saul take im own sword and fall for im top. ⁵When di young man wey dey carry im war-things see say Saul don die, e too fall for im own sword and die with am. ⁶So Saul die dat day, together with im three sons, di young man wey dey carry im war-things, and all im men.

⁷When di men of Israel wey dey across di valley and across di Jordan see say di army of Israel don run and say Saul and im sons don die, dem comot leave dem towns and run. Di Philistine people come and settle inside dem. ⁸Di next day, di Philistine people come to strip di dead body, and dem see Saul and im three sons wey fall for Mount Gilboa. ⁹Dem cut off im head, strip im war-things, and send messenger go round Philistia to carry di news go dem idol temples and among di people. ¹⁰Dem put im war-things for inside di temple of Ashtoreth and nail im body for di wall of Beth-shan. ^a a v10 Ashtoreth na goddess of di Canaan people; as di Philistine people put Saul im war-things for her temple, na dem way to give dem gods credit for di victory.

¹¹When di people wey dey live for Jabesh-gilead hear wetin di Philistine people do Saul, ¹²all dem fighting men waka through di whole night, take Saul im body and im sons dem body comot from di wall of Beth-shan, carry dem come Jabesh, and burn dem for there. ¹³Dem take dem bones, bury dem under di tamarisk tree for Jabesh, and fast for seven days.
