The Father Judges Edom's Ancient Hatred
35 1 The word of our Father came to me:
2 Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it. 3 Say to it: The Sovereign Father says: Look, I am against you, Mount Seir. I will stretch my hand against you and make you a desolation and waste. 4 I will lay your cities in ruins, and you will become a desolation. Then you will know that I am the Father.
5 Because you held an ancient hatred and gave the people of Israel over to the sword at the time of their disaster, at the time their final punishment came, 6 so as I live, declares the Sovereign Father, I will hand you over to bloodshed, and bloodshed will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you. 7 I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste and cut off from it all who come and go. 8 I will fill its mountains with the slain; on your hills, valleys, and all your ravines those killed by the sword will fall. 9 I will make you desolate forever; your cities will stay empty. Then you will know that I am the Father.
10 Because you said, 'These two nations, these two lands will be mine; we'll take them'—though our Father was there 11 —therefore, as I live, declares the Sovereign Father, I will treat you as your anger and envy deserve, which you showed in hating Israel, and I will make myself known among Israel's people when I judge you. 12 Then you will know I am the Father. I have heard all your contempt against Israel's mountains: "They are wasted, given us to devour." 13 You boasted against me with your mouth and heaped up your words against me; I heard it. 14 This is what the Sovereign Father says: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. 15 As you rejoiced because the house of Israel's inheritance was desolate, so I will do to you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the Father.
