Book

Remember Your Papa Wey Dey Provide For You

The forty years of hunger and manna na teaching: people no dey live by bread alone. As man dey discipline im pikin, na so your Papa dey discipline you. The real danger na the good land — belle wey full, animals wey dey multiply, and heart wey go talk say na my own hand make all this.

Chapter 8.

Make you obey well-well every commandment wey I dey give you today, so that you fit live, multiply, enter, and possess di land wey our Papa swear give your ancestors. Remember di whole way wey your Papa lead you dis forty years for di wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know wetin dey inside your heart—whether you go keep im commandments or not. E humble you, make you hungry, den feed you manna wey you and your ancestors no know before, to teach you say man no dey live by bread alone, but by every word wey comot from di mouth of our Papa. Your cloth no tear for your body, and your leg no swell, dis forty years. So make you know for your heart say, as man dey discipline im pikin, na so your Papa dey discipline you. So make you keep di commandments of your Papa, dey waka for im ways and dey fear am. For your Papa dey bring you enter one good land—land of streams, springs, and deep waters wey dey flow through valleys and hills, land of wheat and barley, vines, figs, and pomegranates; land of olive oil and honey. Land where you go chop bread without scarcity, wey you no go lack anytin—land of iron stone, wey you go dig im hills for copper. When you don chop and belle full you, make you bless your Papa for di good land wey e give you.

Take care make you no forget your Papa, and fail to keep im commandments, rules, and statutes wey I command you today, for when you don chop and belle full you, and you don build fine houses and dey live inside dem, and your herds and flocks multiply, your silver and gold multiply, and everytin wey you get multiply, den your heart go swell with pride, and you go forget your Papa, wey bring you comot from di land of Egypt, from di house of slavery, wey lead you through dat big, fearful wilderness of poisonous snakes and scorpions, of drought and no water, wey bring water comot for you from flint rock, wey feed you manna for di wilderness, wey your ancestors no know, to humble you and test you, and for di end do you good. Take care—no talk for your heart say, “Na my power, na di strength of my hand, make dis wealth for me.” Remember your Papa, for na im dey give you power to gain wealth, to confirm im Covenant wey e swear give your ancestors, as e dey today.

But if you ever forget your Papa, dey follow oda gods, serve dem and bow down give dem, I dey testify against you today: you go surely perish. Like di nations wey our Papa dey destroy before you, na so you too go perish, since you no gree obey di voice of your Papa.
