Deuteronomy 26

Book

The Land Your Father Gives

Chapter 26.

When you enter the land your Father gives you as an inheritance, take possession of it, and settle in it, Take some firstfruits from all the ground's produce you harvest from the land your Father gives you, put it in a basket, and go to the place your Father chooses to place his name. Go to the priest serving then and say, 'I declare today to your Father that I have entered the land our Father swore to our ancestors to give us.' The priest will take the basket from your hand and set it before your Father's altar. Declare before your Father: 'My father was a wandering Aramean who went down to Egypt and lived there as a foreigner, few in number, and there became a great, mighty, numerous nation.' But the Egyptians mistreated us and afflicted us and forced us into hard labor. We cried out to our Father; our Father heard our cry and saw our suffering, toil, and oppression. So our Father brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand, an outstretched arm, great terror, and signs and wonders. He brought us here and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. "Now I have brought the firstfruits of the ground you, our Father, gave me." Then set it before him and worship before him. Rejoice in all the good things your Father has given you and your household — you, the Levite, and the foreigner living among you.

When you finish bringing the full tenth of your produce in the third year, the year of the tenth, and have given it to the Levite, the foreigner, the orphan, and the widow, so they eat in your towns and are satisfied, Then say before your Father: I have cleared the sacred portion from my house and given it to the Levite, the foreigner, the orphan, and the widow, exactly as you commanded me. I have not disobeyed or forgotten your commands. I ate none of it mourning, removed none unclean, gave none to the dead. I obeyed my Father's voice; I did all you commanded me. Look down from your holy home in heaven, bless your people Israel and the land you gave us, as sworn to our fathers — a land flowing with milk and honey.

Heart and Soul Obedience

Today your Father commands you to do these statutes and rules, keep and do them with all your heart and with all your soul. Today you have declared your Father to be your Father — to walk in his ways, keep his statutes, his commandments, and his rules, and obey him. Today your Father has declared you his people, his treasured possession, as he promised you, and that you must keep all his commandments, and he will set you high above all the nations he made, for praise, fame, and honor, and that you will be a people holy to your Father, as he promised.
