Romania at a glance

Romania is a land of painted monasteries, Carpathian villages and Transylvanian towns — a nation where the Orthodox liturgy is part of the calendar of life, and where a younger generation is asking how to know God for itself.

What Romania is known for

Romania’s Bible story runs from a prince’s printing house in Bucharest to a young Orthodox translator who gave the people a Bible in everyday speech.

The Bucharest Bible, 1688

Sponsored by Prince Șerban Cantacuzino of Wallachia, it is described as the first complete translation of the Bible into Romanian.

The Cornilescu Bible, 1921

Dumitru Cornilescu’s full Bible, published in 1921 after his Psalms (1920) and New Testament, became the standard Protestant version in Romania; the British and Foreign Bible Society adopted it for Romania in its 1924 revised edition.

An Orthodox heartland

Orthodox believers are the large majority of those who stated a religion in the 2021 census.

A growing Pentecostal church

Pentecostals are the only church that grew between the 2011 and 2021 censuses, from about 362,000 to 404,000 people.

Romanian, and Hungarian too

Romanian is the national language; a complete Hungarian edition is also free for Hungarian speakers in Romania, alongside the Romanian one.

Castles and mountains

From Peleș Castle at Sinaia to the Carpathian villages, Romania’s landscape is among Europe’s most storied.

Faith and the Bible in Romania

Romania counted 19,053,815 residents in its 2021 census. Of those who stated a religion, 85.3% were Orthodox (about 14 million people, down from over 16.3 million in 2011), 4.5% Roman Catholic and 2.5% Pentecostal — the only church to grow. About 2.7 million people, close to 15% of the population, did not declare a religion.

The Bible is old here. The Bucharest Bible of 1688 gave Romanians the whole Scripture in their own language, and in 1921 Dumitru Cornilescu’s version made it readable in everyday speech for a new generation of Orthodox and Evangelical readers alike.

The liturgy and the icon are loved, and the Scriptures are heard on Sunday. The invitation of Father’s Heart Bible™ is a personal one: read the same Word in clear Romanian, and meet in it a Father.

What pains Romania

Behind Romania’s growth and beauty, the census and the headlines show wounds that families carry — and the Father’s heart speaks into them.

1.1 million fewer
residents in 2021 than in 2011, according to the census
about 15%
of the population did not declare a religion in 2021
2.3 million fewer
Orthodox believers than in 2011 (just under 14 million, from over 16.3 million)
families apart
parents and children separated by work abroad
a younger generation
asking whether faith is more than tradition
a searching heart
longing to know our Father personally

Romania’s population fell by 1.1 million between the 2011 and 2021 censuses, and behind that number are families divided across borders and a country asking itself what holds it together.

The Father’s answer is not a program. It is a Word to be read, free, in Romanian, in Father’s Heart Bible™ — for the believer, the doubter, and the one who simply wants to hear it clearly.

What “our Father” offers Romania

Father’s Heart Bible™ does not ask Romania to leave the Orthodox faith or the Scriptures it treasures. It lets a faithful people hear, in clear Romanian, the Father whom its own Bible reveals.

For the one who prays the liturgy

Romanians pray “Our Father in heaven” from childhood — and can read it again, as the words of One who knows them by name.

For the one left behind

To families scattered by work and distance, Scripture promises “a father to the fatherless” — a Father who stays.

For the child of our Father

“…received the Spirit of sonship, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’” — not a slave’s fear, but a child’s trust.

For the Romanians abroad

For Romanian families living in other countries, the whole Bible is free on any phone, in Romanian and in English.

His Word will not return void

When our Father said, “Let there be light,” there was light. His Word accomplishes what He sends it to do. In a land that has had it in Romanian since 1688, it will not return empty.

“…so will my word be that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” — Isaiah 55:11
