Psalms 108

Book

My Heart Is Steadfast

A song. A psalm of David.

Stitched together from two earlier psalms of David: morning music that wakes the dawn, then our Father's old boast of ownership over Shechem, Gilead and Edom. Between them sits the sober line that human rescue is worthless, and a plea for real help.

Chapter 108.

My heart is steadfast, my Father; I will sing and make music with all that I am. Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise you among the peoples, my Father; I will make music to you among the nations. For your covenant love is great, higher than the heavens, and your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

Be exalted, my Father, above the heavens, and let your glory be over all the earth. Save us with your right hand and answer me, so that those you love may be rescued.

Our Father has spoken in his holiness: "In triumph I will divide up Shechem and measure out the Valley of Succoth. Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my scepter.

Moab is my washbasin; on Edom I throw my sandal; over Philistia I shout in triumph."

Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? Is it not you, our Father, who once rejected us, and no longer go out with our armies? Give us help against the enemy, for human rescue is worthless. With our Father we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.
