Freewill Offerings for the Father's House
29 1 David the king told the whole assembly: My son Solomon, the one our Father has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the task is great, for the temple is not for man but for our Father. 2 With all my strength I have provided for my Father's house: gold for the gold, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, wood for the wood; onyx stones and stones for settings, stones of antimony and varied colors, every kind of precious stone, and marble in abundance. 3 Because I delight in my Father's house, I give my personal treasure of gold and silver to my Father's house, beyond all I've provided for the holy house: 4 about one hundred twelve tons of gold, gold of Ophir, and about two hundred sixty-two tons of refined silver, to overlay the buildings' walls, 5 Gold for the gold, silver for the silver, and every task for craftsmen's hands. Now who is willing to dedicate himself today to our Father?
6 Then the clan leaders, the tribal leaders of Israel, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the officials over the king's work offered willingly. 7 For the service of our Father's house, they gave about 188 tons of gold and ten thousand darics, 375 tons of silver, 675 tons of bronze, and 3,750 tons of iron. 8 Whoever had precious stones gave them to our Father's house treasury, under Jehiel the Gershonite's care. 9 The people rejoiced at their willing gifts, offered freely to our Father with a whole heart; King David also rejoiced greatly.
David's Prayer of Praise to the Father
10 So David blessed our Father before the whole assembly, saying, 'Blessed are you, the Father of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.' 11 Yours, our Father, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty—for everything in the heavens and on earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, our Father; you are lifted up as head over all. 12 Riches and honor come from you; you rule over all. Power and might are in your hand; it is in your hand to make great and to give strength to all. 13 And now, our Father, we give thanks to you and praise your glorious name. 14 Who am I, and who are my people, that we could offer so willingly? Everything comes from you—we have only given you what's from your own hand. 15 We are foreigners and guests before you, as all our ancestors were; our days on earth are like a shadow, with no hope of staying. 16 O our Father, all this wealth we gathered to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and all of it is yours. 17 I know, my Father, you test the heart and delight in integrity. In my heart's integrity I have freely given all this, and now I see your people found here, giving to you with joy. 18 O God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this intent forever in your people's hearts, and direct their hearts toward you. 19 Give my son Solomon a whole heart to keep your commands, testimonies, and statutes, to do all this, and build the temple I have provided for.
20 David told the whole assembly, "Bless your Father now." So they all blessed the God of their fathers, bowed their heads, and fell facedown before our Father and the king.
Solomon Anointed King Before the Father
21 They sacrificed sacrifices to our Father and offered burnt offerings to our Father the next day: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and abundant sacrifices for all Israel. 22 They ate and drank before our Father that day with great joy, made Solomon son of David king again, anointed him ruler for our Father, and Zadok priest.
23 Solomon sat on our Father's throne as king in place of David his father. He thrived, and all Israel obeyed him. a a v23 Israel's king sat on a throne that belonged to our Father — the kingdom was our Father's own reign carried out on earth. This throne finds its true and lasting King in Jesus, the son of David. 24 Also all the leaders and mighty warriors, and also all King David's sons, submitted to King Solomon. 25 And our Father made Solomon exceedingly great in the sight of all Israel, giving him royal majesty beyond any king before him in Israel.
The Reign and Death of King David
26 David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. 27 His reign over Israel lasted forty years — seven in Hebron, thirty-three in Jerusalem. 28 He died at a good old age, full of days, wealth, and honor; Solomon his son reigned in his place. 29 Now the acts of King David, first and last, are written in the records of Samuel the seer, the records of Nathan the prophet, and the records of Gad the seer. 30 with all his reign and might, and the events that came upon him, Israel, and all the kingdoms of the lands.
