David's Whole-Heart Praise
Of David.
David thanks his Father for answering on the day he called and making him bold. The observation at the center is a preference: though exalted, he looks at the lowly and keeps the proud at a distance. He finishes what he starts in a life.
138 1I will praise you with all my heart; before the gods I will sing your praise. 2I will bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your covenant love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted your word above all your name. 3On the day I called, you answered me; you made me bold, with strength in my soul.
4All the kings of the earth will praise you, my Father, for they have heard the words of your mouth. 5They will sing of the ways of our Father, for the glory of our Father is great. 6Though our Father is exalted, he looks upon the lowly, but he knows the proud from afar.
7Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the anger of my enemies, and your right hand saves me. 8Our Father will accomplish his purpose for me; your covenant love, my Father, endures forever. Do not abandon the work of your hands.
