How Majestic Your Name
For the director of music: according to the Gittith. A psalm of David.
Looking at the night sky, the psalmist asks why the Maker of moon and stars would notice such small creatures at all. The answer is not that people are large, but that our Father crowned them with honor and handed them his works.
8 1O our Sovereign Father, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2Out of the mouths of babies and nursing infants you have established strength, because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger. 3When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have set in place, 4what is mankind that you are mindful of them, the son of man that you care for him? a a v4 The writer of Hebrews applies these words to Jesus — the Son of Man who was made lower than the angels for a little while, then crowned with glory and honor (Hebrews 2:6-9). 5Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. 6You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet: 7all sheep and oxen, and also the wild animals, 8the birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. 9O our Sovereign Father, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
