All My Heart Toward You
For the director of music: according to Muth-labben. A Psalm of David.
Thanks for a specific rescue: enemies turned back, their cities uprooted, their very names blotted out. Our Father sits as a just judge and a stronghold for the oppressed. David asks him to rise again so the nations remember they are only mortal.
9 1I will give thanks to you, my Father, with all my heart; I will recount all your wonderful deeds.
2I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
3When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish before you. 4For you have upheld my right and my cause; you have sat on the throne as a righteous judge. 5You have rebuked the nations; you have destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name forever and ever. 6The enemy is finished, in everlasting ruins; you have uprooted their cities; the very memory of them has perished.
7But our Father sits enthroned forever; he has established his throne for justice. 8And he judges the world with righteousness; he governs the peoples with justice. 9Our Father is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. 10Those who know your name trust in you, for you, our Father, have never abandoned those who seek you.
11Sing praises to our Father, who lives in Zion! Proclaim his deeds among the peoples! 12For he who avenges blood remembers the afflicted; he does not forget their cry.
13Be gracious to me, my Father! See my affliction at the hands of those who hate me, you who lift me up from the gates of death, 14that I may declare all your praises in the gates of Daughter Zion, and rejoice in your salvation.
15The nations have sunk into the pit they made; their own feet are caught in the net they hid. 16Our Father has made himself known; he has executed justice; the wicked is snared by the work of his own hands. Higgaion. a a v16 Higgaion is a musical or contemplative marking — likely a call to pause and reflect on what has just been sung.
17The wicked return to the grave, all the nations who forget our Father. 18For the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted perish forever.
19Arise, our Father! Do not let mortals prevail; let the nations be judged before you. 20Strike them with terror, our Father; let the nations know they are only mortal.
