I Lift My Soul to You
Of David.
David asks to be taught, not just rescued — show me your ways. He brings both his enemies and the sins of his youth and asks that neither define him. Our Father shares his covenant like a friend with those who fear him.
25 1To you, my Father, I lift up my soul.
2My Father, in you I trust; don't let me be ashamed; don't let my enemies triumph over me. 3Indeed, none who wait for you will be ashamed; those who betray without cause will be ashamed.
4Show me your ways, my Father; teach me your paths. 5Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are our Father, my salvation; I wait for you all day long. 6Remember your tender compassion, my Father, and your covenant love, for they are from long ago. 7Do not remember the sins of my youth or my rebellions; remember me according to your covenant love, for the sake of your goodness, my Father.
8Good and upright is our Father; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. 9He leads the humble in justice, and teaches the humble his way. 10All the paths of our Father are loyal love and faithfulness for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.
11For your name's sake, my Father, forgive my sin, for it is great. 12Who is the one who fears our Father? He will instruct him in the way he should choose. 13His soul will rest in well-being, and his children will inherit the land. 14The intimate friendship of our Father is for those who fear him, and he makes his covenant known to them. 15My eyes are always toward our Father, for he will free my feet from the net.
16Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. 17The troubles of my heart have multiplied; bring me out of my distress. 18Look on my affliction and my hardship, and take away all my sins. 19See my enemies, for they are many, and they hate me with violent hatred.
20Guard my soul and deliver me; don't let me be ashamed, for I take refuge in you. 21Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you.
22Redeem Israel, our Father, out of all his troubles.
