Everything Belongs to Him
A psalm of David.
Since the earth and everyone in it belong to our Father, coming near him is on his terms: clean hands, an honest heart, no false oaths. Then the gates themselves are ordered to open for the King of glory, mighty in battle, coming in.
24 1The earth is our Father's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. 2For he laid its foundations on the seas and built it on the rivers. 3Who may climb the mountain of our Father? And who may stand in his holy place? 4The one with clean hands and a pure heart, who does not set his heart on what is false and does not swear deceitfully. 5He will receive blessing from our Father and righteousness from his Father who saves him. 6Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. a a v6 Selah: likely a musical cue or pause for reflection during worship; also at verse 10.
7Lift up your heads, gates! Be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8Who is this King of glory? Our Father, strong and mighty, our Father, mighty in battle. b b v8 The King of glory entering the gates is our Father himself, strong to save and mighty to defend his children. 9Lift up your heads, gates! Lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10Who is he, this King of glory? The Father of heaven's armies—he is the King of glory.
