Psalms 85

Book

Sons of Korah

For the director of music. A psalm of the sons of Korah.

Our Father has forgiven this people before, and they ask him to do it again rather than stay angry through generations. The answer they hear is peace, and a picture: love and faithfulness meeting, righteousness and peace kissing, the land yielding its harvest.

Chapter 85.

You showed favor to your land, our Father; you restored the fortunes of Jacob. You forgave the guilt of your people; you covered all their sin. You withdrew all your wrath; you turned from your burning anger.

Restore us, our Father, our salvation; put away your indignation toward us. Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? Will you not revive us again, so your people can rejoice in you? Show us your covenant love, our Father, and grant us your salvation.

Let me hear what our Father will say, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful ones; but let them not turn back to their foolish ways. Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land. Covenant love and faithfulness have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed. Faithfulness springs up from the earth, and righteousness looks down from the sky. Yes, our Father will give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness will go before him and prepare the way for his steps.
