Noah Enters the Ark
The waiting ends. Noah's family and the animals go in, our Father shuts the door, and water comes from below and above for forty days. The chapter counts the dead plainly — everything that breathed on dry land — and floats one boat.
7 1Then our Father told Noah, "Enter the ark with your whole household, for I've seen you righteous before me in this generation. 2Take for yourself seven pairs of every clean animal, male and female, and one pair of unclean animals, male and female, 3also seven pairs of sky birds, male and female, to keep offspring alive across all the earth. 4For in seven days I'll rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and wipe out every living thing I made from the face of the ground."
5Noah did everything our Father commanded him.
6Noah was 600 years old when the floodwaters came upon the earth. 7He, his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives entered the ark to escape the floodwaters. 8Of clean animals and animals not clean, of birds and all that crawls on the ground. 9Two by two, male and female, came to Noah in the ark, as our Father commanded Noah. 10After the seven days, the floodwaters came upon the earth. 11In Noah's six hundredth year, second month, day seventeen—that same day—all springs of the great deep burst open, and heaven's floodgates opened. 12The rain fell on the earth for forty days and forty nights.
13That day Noah entered the ark—he, his sons Shem, Ham, Japheth, his wife, and his sons' three wives. 14They and every wild animal by their kind, every livestock by their kind, every crawler on earth by their kind, every bird by their kind, every winged creature. 15They came to Noah, into the ark, two by two, all flesh with breath of life. 16Male and female of all flesh entered, as our Father commanded him; then our Father shut him in. 17The flood lasted forty days on the earth; the waters rose, lifted the ark, floating above the earth. 18Waters surged and rose greatly over the earth, and the ark floated on the water's surface. 19Waters rose higher and higher on the earth, covering all the high mountains under the whole sky. 20About twenty-two feet deep the waters rose above the mountains, covering them. 21Everything moving on earth died: birds, livestock, wild animals, all creatures swarming the earth, and all mankind. 22Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. 23Our Father wiped out every living thing on the ground's face—people, animals, crawling creatures, birds of the sky—and wiped them from the earth. Only Noah and those with him in the ark remained. 24And the waters prevailed over the earth 150 days.
