The Boastful Tongue
For the director of music. A wisdom psalm of David. When Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, "David has gone to the house of Ahimelech."
Aimed at Doeg, who informed on the priests to Saul. He is addressed as a man who loves devouring words and trusts his own wealth, and told he will be ripped from his tent — while the singer grows like an olive tree in our Father's house.
52 1Why do you boast of evil, mighty one? The faithful love of our Father endures all day long.
2Your tongue devises destruction, like a sharpened razor, you deceiver. 3You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking what is right.
4You love every devouring word, you deceitful tongue. 5But our Father will tear you down forever; he will snatch you up and pluck you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living.
6The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh at him, saying, 7"Look at the man who would not make our Father his refuge, but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others." 8But I am like a flourishing olive tree in the house of our Father; I trust in the faithful love of our Father forever and ever. 9I will praise you forever for what you have done; in the presence of your faithful ones I will put my hope in your name, for it is good.
