Hope Still Dey for our Papa Im People

Chapter 10.

Ezra come stand up and make di chief priests, di Levites, and all Israel swear to do as dem agree. Dem take di oath.

Den Ezra rise comot from front of di house of our Papa and go di room of Jehohanan pikin of Eliashib, and e stay dia troway night without bread or water, because e dey mourn over di way di exile people no keep faith. Den dem send word go round Judah and Jerusalem for all di exile people wey don return make dem gather for Jerusalem. Anybody wey no come within three days, by di decision of di officials and di elders, go lose all im property and dem go comot am from di gathering of di exile people.

All di men of Judah and Benjamin gather for Jerusalem within three days—for di twentieth day of di ninth month. All di people sidon for di open square wey dey front of di house of our Papa, dey shake because of dis matter and di heavy rain.

Ezra di priest rise and tell dem say, "Una no keep faith, una marry foreign women, dey add to Israel im guilt. So now, confess to our Papa, di God of una fathers, and do wetin e want. Separate una self from di people of di land and from di foreign women."

Den di whole gathering answer with loud voice say, "Yes! We must do as you talk. But di people plenty, and na rainy season, so we no fit stand outside. Dis no be work of one or two days, because we don sin well-well for dis matter. Make our leaders act for di whole gathering. Make everybody for our towns wey marry foreign women come for di time wey dem set, together with di elders and judges of each town, until our Papa im burning anger over dis matter turn comot from us."

Na only Jonathan pikin of Asahel and Jahzeiah pikin of Tikvah stand against dis; Meshullam and Shabbethai di Levite support dem.

So di exile people do dis. Ezra di priest pick men, heads of dem fathers' houses, each one by im name, for dem father's house. For di first day of di tenth month dem sidon to look into di matter, and by day one of di first month, dem finish with all di men wey bin marry foreign women.

Dem Wey Bin Break Faith

Among di priests' sons wey dem find say dem marry foreign women: sons of Jeshua pikin of Jozadak and im brothers—Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah.

Of di sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah.

Of di sons of Harim: Maaseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel, and Uzziah.

Of di Levites: Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (dat is, Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

Of di singers: Eliashib. Of di gatekeepers: Shallum, Telem, and Uri.

And of Israel: of di sons of Parosh—Ramiah, Izziah, Malchijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Malchijah, and Benaiah.

Of di sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremoth, and Elijah.

Of di sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad, and Aziza.

Of di sons of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.

Of di sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, Adaiah, Jashub, Sheal, and Jeremoth.

Of di sons of Pahath-moab: Adna, Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui, and Manasseh.

Of di sons of Harim: Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon, Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.

Of di sons of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei.

Of di sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, Uel, Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi, Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasu. Of di sons of Binnui: Shimei, Shelemiah, Nathan, Adaiah, Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai, Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah, Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph.

Of di sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, Joel, and Benaiah.

All dis ones bin marry foreign women, and some of dem get wives wey dem born pikin for dem.
