Sing to Him a New Song
A call for new music resting on one claim: the world exists because our Father spoke. He overturns national plans, sees into every heart he formed, and is unimpressed by armies and warhorses. His eye rests on those who wait for his love.
33 1Rejoice in our Father, you righteous; praise is fitting for the upright. 2Give thanks to our Father with the lyre; make music to him on the ten-stringed harp. 3Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, with a shout of joy.
4For the word of our Father is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. 5He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the covenant love of our Father.
6By the word of our Father the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth. 7He gathers the waters of the sea like a heap; he stores the ocean depths in his storehouses. 8Let all the earth fear our Father; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. 9For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.
10Our Father brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. 11The counsel of our Father stands forever, the plans of his heart through all generations.
12Blessed is the nation whose Father is our Father, the people he has chosen as his own inheritance. 13From heaven our Father looks down; he sees all humanity. 14From his dwelling place he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth. 15He forms all their hearts; he discerns everything they do.
16No king is saved by the size of his army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. 17A horse gives false hope of victory; for all its great strength, it cannot save.
18But the eye of our Father is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his covenant love, 19to deliver their soul from death and to keep them alive in famine.
20Our soul waits for our Father; he is our help and our shield. 21For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. 22Let your covenant love, our Father, be upon us, even as we hope in you.
