How Long Will You Hide?
For the director of music. A psalm of David.
Four times David asks how long — how long forgotten, how long hidden from, how long carrying sorrow, how long the enemy on top. Nothing in his situation changes. The psalm turns anyway on his Father's love, and ends singing about goodness already received.
13 1How long, my Father, will you forget me? Forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
2How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and carry sorrow in my heart all day long? How long will my enemy triumph over me? 3Look on me and answer, my Father; give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death.
4My enemy will say, "I have overcome him," and my foes will rejoice when I fall. 5But I have trusted in your faithful love; my heart will rejoice in your salvation. 6I will sing to my Father, because he has been so good to me.
