We Were Like Those Who Dream
A Song of Ascents.
Returning exiles say the homecoming felt like dreaming and filled their mouths with laughter — then ask our Father for more restoration, like streams returning to the Negev. The promise for now is that those sowing in tears come home carrying bundles of grain.
126 1When our Father restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. 2Then our mouths were filled with laughter, and our tongues with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." 3Our Father has done great things for us; we are filled with gladness.
4Restore our fortunes, our Father, like the streams in the Negev. a a v4 The Negev is the dry southern desert of Israel, where empty streambeds flood suddenly with water after the rains — a picture of fortunes reversed in an instant. 5Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy. 6Whoever goes out weeping, carrying the bag of seed to sow, will surely come home with shouts of joy, carrying bundles of grain.
