Genesis 13

13 ¹Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, he, his wife, all he had, and Lot with him. ²Now Abram had become very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. ³He went by stages from the Negev to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent stood before, ⁴and where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of our Father. ⁵Now Lot, who was traveling with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. ⁶The land could not support them living together; their possessions were too great to stay together. ⁷A quarrel arose between Abram's herders and Lot's herders. The Canaanites and Perizzites were living in the land at that time. ⁸Abram said to Lot, "Let's not quarrel—you and me, or your herders and mine—we're brothers. ⁹Isn't the whole land before you? Please, separate from me: if left, I'll go right; if right, I'll go left."

¹⁰Lot looked up and saw that the whole Jordan plain toward Zoar was well watered everywhere—like our Father's garden, like Egypt's land. (This was before our Father destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.). ¹¹Lot chose the whole Jordan plain for himself and traveled eastward; the two parted from each other. ¹²Abram lived in the land of Canaan; Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched tents as far as Sodom. ¹³Now the people of Sodom were wicked, sinning greatly against our Father.

¹⁴After Lot parted from him, our Father told Abram, "Look up from where you stand: north, south, east, and west. ¹⁵For all the land that you see I will give to you and to your children forever. ¹⁶I will make your children like the dust of the earth—if the dust of the earth can be counted, so can your children. ¹⁷Get up, walk the land's length and breadth, for I am giving it to you."

¹⁸Abram pitched his tents, went and settled by the oaks of Mamre at Hebron, and built an altar there to our Father.
