Hebrews 3

3 ¹So, holy brothers sharing a heavenly call, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest we confess. ²He was faithful to the one who appointed him, as Moses also was in all our Father's house. ³Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, as a house's builder deserves more honor than the house itself. ⁴For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is our Father. ⁵Moses was faithful in all our Father's house, a servant testifying to what would be spoken later. ⁶But Christ, as son, is faithful over his house. And we are his house—if we hold firm the confidence and hope we boast in.

⁷So, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you hear his voice, ^a a v7 The book of Hebrews treats Scripture as the Holy Spirit's living voice — the same Spirit who spoke through the prophets now speaks to us today, calling us into our Father's rest. ⁸do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, ⁹where your ancestors put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. ¹⁰That is why I was angry with that generation, and I said, 'Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.' ¹¹So I swore in my anger, 'They will never enter my rest.'"

¹²Brothers, watch that none of you has an evil, unbelieving heart that deserts the living Father. ¹³But encourage each other daily, while it is called "today," so none of you becomes hardened by sin's deceit. ¹⁴For we have become sharers in Christ, if we truly keep our first confidence firm to the end. ¹⁵As it is said: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as when you rebelled."

¹⁶Who heard and rebelled? Wasn't it all who left Egypt through Moses? ¹⁷With whom was he angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸Who did he swear would never enter his rest, except those who disobeyed? ¹⁹So we see they couldn't enter because of lack of faith.
