The Greatness of Mordecai
A three-verse closing note in the style of a royal chronicle: the king levies tribute across land and coastlands, and Mordecai, now second only to the throne, is remembered for using that power to seek his people's good and speak peace to his own.
Chapter 10.
10 1King Xerxes imposed tribute on the land and on the coastlands of the sea. 2Are not all his acts of power and might, and the full account of the greatness to which the king had raised Mordecai, written in the Book of the Chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia? 3Mordecai the Jew, second to King Xerxes, great among the Jews, favored by his many brothers, seeking his people's good, speaking peace to all his descendants.
