Asaph's Song of Trust
For the director of music: to the tune "Do Not Destroy." A psalm of Asaph. A song.
The people give thanks, then our Father speaks for himself: he sets the time for judgment, holds the earth's pillars steady, and tells the boastful to stop flaunting their power. Promotion comes from no direction on the map; he lowers one and lifts another.
75 1We give thanks to you, our Father; we give thanks, for your name is near. People tell of your wonderful deeds.
2"At the set time that I choose, I will judge with fairness.
3"When the earth and all who live on it tremble, it is I who hold its pillars firm. 4I say to the boastful, 'Do not boast,' and to the wicked, 'Do not flaunt your power.' a a v4 A "horn" here pictures strength and pride — to "lift up the horn" is to exalt one's own power. 5Do not flaunt your power so proudly; do not speak with such arrogance."
6For no one from the east or the west, nor from the wilderness, can lift himself up. 7It is our Father who judges; he brings one down and lifts another up. 8In the hand of our Father is a cup of foaming wine, fully mixed, and he pours it out; all the wicked of the earth must drain it down to the dregs. 9But I will proclaim it forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10"I will cut off all the power of the wicked, but the power of the righteous will be lifted high."
