The Father Exposes a False Prophet
Hananiah announces publicly that Babylon's yoke breaks within two years, and snaps Jeremiah's yoke-bar to prove it. Jeremiah answers Amen, then returns with our Father's iron yoke in place of wood, and tells Hananiah he will die for teaching the people to trust a lie. He does.
28 1That year, early in Zedekiah king of Judah's reign, the fourth year, fifth month, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur from Gibeon told me in the house of our Father, before the priests and all the people: 2"The LORD of heaven's armies, Israel's God, says: I have broken the king of Babylon's yoke. 3Within two years I'll bring back to this place all the LORD's house vessels Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took from here to Babylon. 4Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim, Judah's king, and all Judah's exiles taken to Babylon I will bring back here, declares the LORD, for I will break Babylon's king's yoke."
5Jeremiah the prophet answered Hananiah the prophet before the priests and all the people standing in the house of our Father. 6The prophet Jeremiah said: "Amen! May our Father do so. May he confirm the words you have prophesied, by bringing back the vessels of our Father's house and all the exiles from Babylon to this place. 7But listen now to this word I am speaking to you and to all these people: 8Prophets before us long ago prophesied war, disaster, and plague against many nations and great kingdoms. 9The prophet who prophesies peace proves truly sent by our Father only when his word comes true."
10Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke-bar off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet and broke it, 11Hananiah told all the people, "This is what the LORD says: So I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon off every nation's neck within two years." Then Jeremiah the prophet left.
12After Hananiah broke the yoke-bar off the prophet Jeremiah's neck, our Father's word came to Jeremiah:
13"Go, tell Hananiah: our Father says: You broke wooden bars but will make iron ones. 14For this is what the Father of heaven's armies, our Father of Israel, says: I've put an iron yoke on all these nations' necks to serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will. I've even given him the wild animals."
15"Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah the prophet, 'Listen, Hananiah! Our Father did not send you; you have made this people trust a lie.' 16So our Father says: I remove you from the earth this year; you die for preaching rebellion against our Father."
17And Hananiah the prophet died that same year, in the seventh month.
